My bike safety guy retired and I had no place to go but local power sports dealers and Canadian Tire.
Canadian tire won’t do anything with drum brakes, and the power sports guys are pricking on the “mechanics call” part of safeties.
The last powersports place I took a bike said they wanted $250 +$50 surcharge for a rear drum. They also did a quick look over the bike looking at date codes on tires (told me 6 year old max), and that the 20 year old hydraulic lines were “expired”.
I found a new mechanic on Nantucket that does bike safeties for $120. He uses MOT criteria and since he doesn’t fix bikes, he’s not grubbing for sales of tires, chains and hydraulic hoses. He inspects them, no cracks, no bulges, no leaks - all good. He, like other shops doesn’t like dusk brakes. So I brought the bike with the back wheel off, he inspected and photographed, I put the wheel back on and he finished the safety.
I don’t want to flood the gut with motorcyclists asking questions - he’s a car shop. If you need a no nonsense bike safety, PM me and I’ll give you the contact.
