Rust under fairings, how do you get rid of it?

So I recently noticed there's a crap ton of ugly rust under my fairings. Rosey Toes never said anything about it (and I'm sure they saw it because they had to) so I'm going to assume it's not going to cause my bike to break in half and murder me. However....

It looks bad and is pissing me off. How do you remove it? Online points to rust sprays, and sand paper. If rust sprays, what are some good ones? And how do I prevent this from happening again? (I do ride in rain).
 
Take it apart, media blast it and get it powder coated or just wait till it rots away. Winter rider then that is what you gets!

I didn't even ride that much in winter <_<
 
It only takes one ride in salt, as soon as the temperature climbs the salt really becomes active and rusts your bike. You could try spraying a light oil on it, let it sit for a day or two and then use a degreaser and a rag. The oil should help remove the surface rust but if it's really bad it won't do anything.
 
After looking more carefully, it's rust on the exhaust pipe...that every car has -_-

ARRGGGGHHH it's so ugly.

I have tried anything yet, just venting here I guess.

Asked my dad and a few mechanics, they told me it doesn't matter and to not waste time on it...since we're in Canada. =(

or you could just get them ceramic coated and be done with it (inhibits rust, reduces radiated heat etc.)

Thanks for the advice...problem is I'm not that handy. I've also don't trust myself taking apart a machine that is supposed to go really fast and not fall apart lol

You could probably get by with painting that stuff on with the exhaust still on the bike. All you would need to do is remove the fairings to get at everything. If the rust isn't really heavy you could skip all the prep work that guy from the first link does.

What kind of bike do you have?

GS500F. I could probably do it with the fairrings still on actually lol I'll give it a shot later.
