Riding there this weekend and am interested in a scenic route to get there, will interstate it back. Doesn't have to be direct, out of the way a little isn't a problem

Thanks

I'd certainly go south then along just below the PA border. PA is biker friendly and superb roads.

The other option is to go via the Catskills and through the Finger Lakes but if you've not done PA - its the treat.

You could do that one way and then the northern part back ( Lake Placid etc ) - cross at Thousand Islands and slab it home.

Thanks guys, djez you're route looks great, I think I might just do that.

Skip the Thousand islands crossing and cross at the Alexandria Point crossing to Wolfe Island then get the free ferry from Wolfe Island to Kingston. Customs line up is 3-4 cars maximum (as this is all the ferry from the US to Wolfe Island can hold). Ferry from US to Wolfe island costs $9 but it's well worth it because of the no line-ups. Countryside around there is nice, some good roads in the part of upper NY state. Watch for State Troopers, they have a hard-on for ON plates. The schedule for both crossings is on the web. The US to Wolfe Island often does an on-demand service too depending on traffic so don't worry about that schedule too much. The Wolfe island to Kingston crossing keeps rigidly to schedule.

Stay off the Bronx Expressway, or at least don't wear your sunglasses, there are a couple longer bridges you go under and with sunglasses and darkness it becomes impossible to see. I found this out the hard way.

Thanks guys, was a great trip with some great roads.

Riding the bike in Manhattan traffic was an absolute blast. Don't know if lane splitting/filtering is legal, but everyone was doing it and the cops don't seem to mind
