Route Options for Road Trip?

So I'm planning a trip down to Tail of the Dragon in late August. Have had a few road blocks thrown in the way including an accident last Friday that put the bike into the shop for a bit (hit by a car). But hopefully that will all get sorted out and I will be back on two wheels soon enough.

I was just wondering for those of you that have taken the trip down there, which way did you go? Is it better to take the I-75 through Detroit, or The I-79 and leave through Buffalo? Is there any "must see" places or roads on the way down there? We are planning to stop a few times and break the 1200Km trip up into 2 days each way. 4 days for travelling and stopping along the way & two days having some fun down at the Tail and some of the other areas around it.

If there is anything worth seeing or going slightly out of the way for I wouldn't mind extending the trip a little. One of my friends is going to do the trip in his evo so I won't have anything but me on the bike. Was almost considering trailering the bike and taking the SUV with me. Then just doing a straight drive there with more time to explore once we get down near the tail.

Right now I only have a rough outline for the trip so any suggestions are appreciated!!

Cool, we'll be down there August 16-23. We are Trailering our bikes and staying in Gatlinburg.
I can't stand the I75 through Detroit, we always head down I79 and leave through Fort Erie.
We are also making it a 2 day trip down and the same on the way back back.
It is vacation after all and I am on vacation the moment I roll out of the driveway.

We've never been to the dragon, but travel to Florida every other year so know a lot of the route

We will stay in or around Beckly WV. That puts 2/3 of the trip behind is on the first day.
The second day is only about 3-4 hours and we can take our time as check in is mid afternoon.

If you really want to be wierded out, check out Dollywood!
