Roads between Toronto and Timmins

Hey all

I was thinking of some ride to do on the long weekend and looked on the map, it seems that Timmins is actually doable in 3 days. Has anyone been? Are there better motorcycle roads than the (I'm assuming boring) transcanada?

Anything particularly interesting to see on the way or once I'm there?

Thanks in advance

Check out Hwy. 144.

what kind of bike are you on and are you looking for paved roads only?

Timmins is an easy days ride.

On a small cruiser (Vulcan 500) that's taken me to Newfoundland and back before. I can go offroad for a little bit (like ride for 30 minutes to get to a campsite) but mostly I need pavement.

I can see from the map that taking highway 11 all the way up would be less than 8 hours, but I wonder if that's a boring ride like so many large highways. Are all those roads I see on Google maps next to highway 11 dirt? If not - I could take some random ones of them to make the trip longer but more interesting. But there's lots to choose from...

What about highway 144 inreb? Is it better than 11?

144 is paved, somewhat curvy and scary desolate. A nice ride.

The 560 east (from the 144) towards New Liskeard is also a really nice hwy and then you can ride south along the 101 in Quebec towards North Bay.
Both the 560 and 101 are smooth as glass with nice big sweepers, nice scenery and very little traffic.

Here's another route taking the entire length of the 144 with a few Muskoka roads thrown in.

Oh, very nice, thanks!

101 is brilliant
East or west of Timmins? It looks rather straight on the way to Quebec, is it still nice?

I would divert over to Sturgeon Falls at North Bay, and take 64 north, back to the 11, then follow the same route laid out in Google maps. 64 is brilliant.

Awesome, thanks guys! I think what I'll do is decide on the way, based on the available routes you mentioned and timing and the weather, and gas stations, going to be a fun weekend!

Yep - agree that 11 is boring. Do the loop using 144 one way and 101 (Quebec side) all the way to Temiskaming. I'd use 66 (Ontario) to access/leave 101. I'd def. check on construction before you go though - I've seen miles of 101 and 66 dug up for half a summer!

I think 66 may be done now.
101 is work in progress but usually not horrendous.
There is another parallel to 101 that's newly paved and great ( look at the James Bay thread for a map )
