riding out the dealer

The dealer still needs a valid insurance policy to handle the ownership registration at the MTO even if it goes unplated. And insurance is the issue with the OP, which leads to the underlying problem:
The dealer can't register ownership to the OP without an insurance policy (MTO requirement). They absolutely won't transfer ownership without valid insurance if the bike is financed. They won't let the bike leave their hands without the ownership being transferred. I don't see how the OP is going to acquire the bike by "early April" but not insure it until July. The two combined factors are just not going to happen. OP won't be able to even trailer it home without insurance.

The only way would be to make up a completely false insurance slip with the correct VIN and what looks like a valid insurance company and policy number, which would be fraud.

I'm not financing it. I deposited 1500, I just need to pay the outstanding amount by april

When I bought my 690 smc new, the dealer just gave me the paper work to get the bike registered myself. I trucked the bike back to my town and got the plates at the local mto .

I'm surprised by this! I've purchased several new and used vehicles from dealers, and they've always requested a fax/scan/email of insurance slip so they could handle the ownership transfer, which is why they charge a licensing fee to recover the cost. They then always take a copy of the original insurance slip when I arrive to pick up the vehicle. The only time I've had to change ownership for a new-to-me vehicle is when I bought privately.

The risk is not worth the reward with uhual trailer going for $20/day or $100 bucks for a flat bed. The cheapest option is to get the dealer to deliver and no they don't need insurance to release. They only need proof of insurance if you are asking them to plate it.

They need insurance to change ownership.

If you are not going to put it on the road you don't need it.

You don't want to be changing ownership without insurance; you'll had to mark it as unfit for the time being, and when you go to put it on the road you have to tow it to get certified since you can't get a temp permit on an unfit vehicle.

I think they only need the insurance info if they are getting plates for you . I was surprised too, the dealer sold mostly offroad stuff, and didn't want to bother going to the mto I guess..

But it's a required field on the MTO ownership transfer papers. You don't need to plate the bike, but you need the insurance info to complete the ownership transfer.

i need insurance to transfer ownership from dealer even if i pay it off the bike full?

I don't think it has to do with paying the bike in full - more like they're not allowed to release the bike to you without insurance/plates.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda made delivery part of sales deal. Don't use CAA unless you want look like a cheap stooge.

When I picked up my bike, dealer forgot to put my plate on it, which I noticed when I was in my garage already. That was a 30 min ride to home, so it all depends on your luck. That said, had I been pulled over, it wouldn't have been too bad as I had insurance and ownership already at that moment.

Does the dealership only need insurance in the case of a finance? What if i buy the bike outright cash money, do they still need insurance to transfer ownership? What if i dont want to insure it until spring time and tow it home? What if im buying it as a track bike?

What if you picked up the phone and called the dealership to ask them all these questions?

Actually, you don't need to insure the vehicle until you go to get plates. You just need to get it home. Though if someone steals it in the meantime it will be a real bummer. The dealer should be able to answer all these question for you and should deliver it unless you are a ridiculously long way away. You just can't ride it on the road without plates and you can't plate it without proof of insurance.

But since you aren't going to ride it you might as well leave it at the dealer until you can insure it and then you can drive it home, plated, insured and smiling.

Enjoy your new bike...

What is it anyway?

If the reason you're waiting to put insurance on it is because of age and length of time driving ask your insurance agent if they can help. I have a friend that was a couple of months away from having 5 years driving experience, his agent sent a letter to head office explaining the situation and showing his good driving record and they let him get his insurance at the "5 year licenced" rate a couple of months early.
