riding out the dealer

Hey everyone, I was wondering if it was possible to ride out the dealership without a license plate/insurance. I put a down payment on the bike today and will have to get it by early April, BUT will not be licensing till July (cause insurance will be hella cheaper for me). The dealership is literally down the road (5-10 min ride). Or is it possible i stick my buddies plate on it and ride home?

If none of them is possible how much would the delivery fee be approximately?

Thanks for reading/replying!

do it at ur own risk
and know if you do get pulled over get ready to face the music
did u consider loading it on a truck
or maybe asking the dealer to use a dealer plate ?

Yeah, I absolutely don't wanna risk it. I was just curious haha. I did think of loading it on a truck but i don't know anybody that drives so if it comes down to it that i need it delivered i'll pay the fee. I'll ask about the dealer plate thing, thanks!

If I were you I'd just take a friends plate and stick it on, from what I heard the dealer wouldn't let that happen though but it sure works on private sales.

haha i wish i could! im getting it from the dealer though, would be nice if i could just zip out of there

lol - you think your insurance is too much now? get caught with a)buddys plate and/or b)cause an accident while no insurance and no plate

most dealers will deliver. i had my Versys delivered on nov22 - cost $99 - i am approx 15km from dealer

Let see, hit someone and pay for it the rest of your life. Get caught and pay a HUGE fine and forget about getting insurance anytime soon at a reasonable rate. Also, part of our insurance premiums are for extended health care & replacement income coverage. It is NOT worth the risk.

$99.00 flatbed towing is available if you don't know anyone with a truck or trailer - a no brainer.

lol really?
Because of the weather now, about 90% riders put their bikes away. You'll stand out, cops will see, you'll get nailed $5000. Good luck with insurance after that. Your dealer doesn't deliver? lol?

I got a cruiser, I'm still riding, it's a beater so I don't mind the salt. Rides different than a Sport/SS.
If it's brand new, why risk it exposed to salt.

Not only that, are you a new soon to be rider? Think again before hitting up the roads at this temperature.

What bike is it anyway?

In my experience, the dealer takes care of changing ownership into the buyers name. They don't want the risk of the buyer taking the vehicle and never transferring ownership. Because they handle the ownership transfer, they will ask you for your insurance policy information (required by MTO). At that time they will also get a new license plate for your purchased vehicle unless you tell them you already have one. If you tell them you already have one, they'll ask for the plate number so they can handle attaching it (at the MTO) with the vehicle/ownership. Good luck trying to slip it all past them.

Just do the right thing.

If bike is financed they will want to see proof of insurance before letting you take it out of the dealership.
Read the fine print of your contract. It will all be in there.

If its a 5 min ride wont the dealer just put a dealer plate on it and ride it to your place? Then you give him a car ride back.

As far as I know, the dealer cannot legally hand over the bike to you in a fit and plated state unless you have proof of insurance. They can hand over the bike in a fit and unplated state, but if you get caught riding a bike in that state... well, I doubt you'll be riding it again very soon. Just get it towed or delivered.

Most dealers won't even let you (can't let you) ride out without an insurance/plate - maybe its different if its a used dealership??

If they do release the bike to you and you want to get it home, just do yourself a favor and get CAA plus now. $89/year (or something like that) for 3 tows..

The dealer still needs a valid insurance policy to handle the ownership registration at the MTO even if it goes unplated. And insurance is the issue with the OP, which leads to the underlying problem:
The dealer can't register ownership to the OP without an insurance policy (MTO requirement). They absolutely won't transfer ownership without valid insurance if the bike is financed. They won't let the bike leave their hands without the ownership being transferred. I don't see how the OP is going to acquire the bike by "early April" but not insure it until July. The two combined factors are just not going to happen. OP won't be able to even trailer it home without insurance.

The only way would be to make up a completely false insurance slip with the correct VIN and what looks like a valid insurance company and policy number, which would be fraud.
