So there was a fatal this past weekend in downtown Vancouver.

50 years old. Riding what appears to be a 1K Ninja. Close up shots of bike shows the rear tire worn down to almost the cords
in centre and the sides look like they have never seen pavement.

I am guessing came in too hot. Was afraid to lean into the curve, target fixated on guardrail.. hit it and supermanned over probably hitting the upper side of that
building and then fell 2 stories.

Rest in Peace.

Quite a vivid imagination, especially from a tiny, lo-res photo.

Here we go again. Not a big fan of armchair analysis of crashes given no information and quotes from a copy of "Twist of the Wrist".

I went and found other links to the story, tire looked as described though, done in the middle.

Pics, dammit.

Unrelated, but it's always an HJC helmet. Spend $15k on a bike, then $100 on a lid.

Baffles me is all.

The hjc has the same protection as a arai or shoei in a crash makes no difference in crash protection. The more expensive helmets are nicer and have better features but do no better in crash protection. Look at the sharp helmet tests from UK some of the cheapest helmets offer better protection than the expensive ones.

I'm not saying HJC is ****.

I'm saying that there is a strong trend towards spending a ton of money on a bike, then spending as little as possible on a helmet.

Doesnt look like a Ninja 1000 to me?

I do that I have a 20g bike and a $200 helmet, I have had many $800 and $1200 dollar helmets and am more than happy with less expensive helmets.

Most HJC helmets rank higher in independent testing than many $800 helmets.

Sharp testing proves no correlation between price and actual safety.

Regardless, riders put far too much faith in helmets and what they can do.

An ill-fitting helmet is useless, regardless of what one pays for it.

Get what you're saying, but from SHOEI to HJC, the safety standard required to be met is no different. What fits your noggin' is another thing to consider. It could be argued it's smart to buy a good value helmet over paying for a name if safety is just the same.

Yah yah, I get that about helmets. I still think HJC is over-represented in the expensive supersport crowd.

Why guys go from big spenders when it comes to the bike to value-shoppers when it comes to the helmet seems odd.

The following helmet manufacturers have a regular presence in the MotoGP World Championship: AGV, Airoh, Arai, HJC, Nolan, Scorpion, Shark, Shoei, and X-Lite.

It's irritating because it's not like a matching set. There's no real order anymore. It's all just a jumble of people doing whatever they want. I also believe it's a strong trend.
