Ride Japan anyone?

And Canada was among the top 20 countries whose residents have visited Japan recently, with 44,500 visits from Canadians recorded in February alone, up 31 per cent from last February. Over 550,000 Canadian tourists visited last year, up 37 per cent from the year before.

Apparently the yen is well down against Canadian and it's only 12 hours to Narita. Lots of tours and rentals available.
I occasionally think about how different life might have been if I'd spent the money on a Japan ride for a week instead of buying the little Yamaha scoot that I totalled.
I actually had a machine Teed up for a week riding then shifted gears to something I could use ongoing in Canada not knowing how quick my son would pass.

Would not consider riding Japan now ....no money ....getting too old but might be an adventure for some of you.
12 hours to Narita. 🥢

I heard english knowledge in japan is much lower than in most other countries. It would be hard getting by, buying food, booking accommodation, etc. Might be better to do it with a tour group.

Even in the 80s we found getting around Japan straight forward in Tokyo, Mt Fuji and Kyoto. Just road signs were confusing ( pre GPS days ) but Mt Fuji was such an easy landmark we managed driving on our own.
I had no issue last year communicating online with the self guided tour company I booked then cancelled.
Google and others now lets you translate real time both spoken and written and also point the camera at a sign and get a translation.
I don't think communication would be a barrier.
Family travels there regularly now even to more remote snowboarding locations and I've not heard of an issue.
Likely others on the forum here can chime in.

While on alternate vacation ideas. I'm pitching this to my dottor and she is interested.

You need to get to Vancouver which is easy. Maybe even spend a few days there if you have friends to visit. Same with a Fiji break for a few days.

Then spend a few weeks in Australia. About $1600 round trip and there are lots of motorcycle rental and tours available.....both for road and off road.

These guys are just up the road from me and I see their groups head north up the Cape regularly.

English is widely spoken by most younger people and most signs are also in English in the larger cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Okinawa, etc.

In the rural areas, English is less common, but with Google Translate with the Google Lens and Voice Translate, it is actually very easy to get around.

You don't need a tour group.

I wanna add that google maps, esp. on transit in the large cities at least very accurate. It goes so far as to tell you what car to get on to be closest to your exit at your destination station and offers more information submitted by public like how hot/cold the train/bus is.
