Respectable recent sport-touring tire comparison?

That's okay. Majority of threads are about sport and performance tires because everyone is such a pro racer.

However, you started a sport-touring tire thread which is the type most people actually require for street riding, where 99% of the time you're using the middle of the tread.

I ride a VFR800 myself and put on a lot of mileage every season. I'm very interested to see which sport touring option people consider best and why.

Any particular reason you're looking at those 2? I ran Bridgestone BT 023 front/rear on my SV, then used Pirelli Angels. Both were incredible tires, very grippy but I got more life out of the Pirellis (still installed)

ran bt23 last summer and i hammered em.

bt 21 were stock i think so it may have been why they were great.

I like Pilot Roads strictly because I've been using them so long and I know they work. I've gone through two sets of Road 2's and have a few k left on my current Road 3's. When those run out, I'll get another set of 3's.

I don't push my tires to the raggedy edge like some so I can't comment on absolute grip. I will say every set of Road's I've run has lasted approximately 20k km which is about all I can ask out of a sport touring tire.

They have a cool tread design which can't hurt either.

Read a review not that long ago comparing the Roadsmart 2 against Dunlops best supersport tire.

the RS2's acquitted itself nicely, and was barely slower around the track than the SS tires. The rider commented that they felt great.

I think Dunlop has a winner here.

Not sure about any comparison write ups but I have an 08 FJR1300 that I purchased last year. The previous owner put on Michelin Pilot 2's. As for personal experience they handle good on dry road and was very surprised and very pleased how well they handled the first time I got caught in a down poor. I felt very comfortable and would definitely put Pilot's back on without a second thought.

Well, as long as the thread went down this road... I personally didn't like the Pilot Road 2s. They felt nervous riding on the centre compound and on turn-in. It's the only complaint I had with them, traction in the dry and wet was great, and they lasted long enough to get two punctures in them ... but just on the feel alone, don't like 'em.
