Replacing VFR800 with Naked Bike?

After owning my VFR800 for 12+ years and it proving to be the
definition of a reliable workhorse, I’d like to get something new.

Naked and sporty is what I want BUT I still require the reliability,
low maintenance/cost that the VFR has proven to be.

I have no idea what new bikes are out there as I haven’t been to a
bike show in years, but I’m going to the Toronto show this weekend and
was hoping to get some insight on models to focus time on before then.

Triumph Street Triple – love the looks (minus the headlights), sound,
and from everything I read it seems like a blast to drive, but with
the limited dealer-base and parts/maintenance seemingly more
expensive/harder to come by than Japanese bikes, and perhaps a
question of reliability, I’m not sure.

Honda CB1000R – nice looks, but the performance seems pretty bland
compared to the VFR, so why spend the extra cash?

Kawasaki Z1000 – the looks are a bit too futuristic for me, but I took
one for a ride earlier this year and it was crazy powerful and seemed
like a lot of fun.

I don’t like the looks of the FZ1, and not interested in anything Suzuki.

BMW?
KTM?

Thoughts would be really helpful! Thanks!

EDIT: just read about Suzuki, so edited out.

Street Triple is definitely a great naked bike.

The new street tripple from Triumph is sexy as hell. Love it. that swingarm is just so nice.

Uh... Hello?

Ducati?
Streetfighter?

I am biased though. :)

The Ducatis/BMWs mentioned (with the exception of the F800) are out of my price range. I don't feel comfortable spending that much money for a bike.

The F800 seem quite underpowered, and when I drove one, I didn't like the sound of the parallel twin (?). If I could afford a bigger one I'd be all over them; the K and R are gorgeous!

As much as I like the Speed I think it might be overkill. I don't need that much power, and from what I hear the Street has been named a better streetbike overall in many tests. Any thoughts on comparing the two, other than more power? With the VFR being so heavy (even though it never felt it when moving), I'm sort of excited to get something considerably lighter.

I like the looks of the swingarm on the 2012 model more than the new 2013 model.

A Hypermotard would be perfect based on your post. There is a really nice 09 "S" model in the classifieds.

Thanks for all the insight everyone!

Had a chance to see/sit a lot of bikes at the show and it seems that
the Street Triple seems to be the way to go. The '13 models come with
standard ABS. The only thing I don't like are the new headlights which
premiered last year, and I did prefer the undertail exhaust, instead
of the side mounted one. I think I'm going to keep my eyes out for a
'09-11 model, or if I can grab a newer model at a really cheap price,
I'll swap the lights.

Called around and I can't find ANY new 2011 Street Triple models
anywhere (if anyone has hookups, please let me know as I'm very
interested).

Stay tuned.

Marco
