Rent your Battery Tender (Trickle Charger)

I was all set to take my bike out today (and expecting to top up the battery from sitting all winter) until realizing that my charger is with a friend who is in Vancouver now... All the stores are closed today, so it's not even possible to buy one until tomorrow.

If anyone can lend their trickle charger for a few hours, I would be happy to compensate them with a Timms Coffee or Timbits! I'm in North York, but will pick-up and drop-off the unit anywhere near GTA

Greatly appreciate if anyone can help out.

Thanks to everyone who replied in this tread, and a few PMs. This is the reason why so many of us keep coming back to this wonderful community season after season (and spend countless hours trolling the forums over the winter).

Picked up the charger from TwistedKestrel and the bike is happy as a kitten!

The best kind of danish is a free danish. Mmmmm...

If you run a battery so low it won't turn the bike over, consider it's life shortened a bit. Don't let it go so low next time, and keep an eye on it now, in case you start to get weird charging problems, etc. Replace it before it cooks your rectifier ;)

I also could use one but my battery isn't bad.. Just didn't charge it over the winter.. Any suggestions on a charger or trickle charger?

Battery Tender Jr. Hook it up in the fall, leave it on all winter.

I like my CTEK 3300 -- Works both on the bike, and on the Optima in the car.

Can't use it on the new Lithium batteries iirc.

Correct -- can't use any smart charger/tender on a lithium battery. Arguably though if you get a lithium, you should invest in a proper lithium charger too in order to make sure all the cells are balanced properly (since even the bike's charging system will not do that).

Most lithium batteries that are designed properly should have a power manager chip to prevent overcharge and over drainage. I wonder if the mc batteries have it.

Is that the problem? Most cheap/simple tenders will not have a desulfation mode, only the fancier ones.
Yep, the only problem is desulfation. The basic chargers don't balance the cells, so it's not a perfect solution, but it works.
