recommended target Air Fuel Ratio for autotune on PCV or Bazzaz?

hey all, not sure if we have any dyno tuners or fuel managment tuners in here to chime in on this but I was wondering if there is a good target afr to set for in autotune for either bazzaz or pcv. I have a Bazzaz unit on the bike and was hoping on the next track day I can log a few sessions on autotune and have the unit then do its thing... just curious given our temps, weather, etc. what would be a good setting to tune/set for.

isnt that the point of the autotune? wont it set itself accourding to your riding conditions?
 
I tune cars, normaly turbo

I would set your auto tune for about 13.7
that will allow it to start making adjustments and be in a safe range.
ideal AFR is 14.7:1 but then your gonna start to go lean.
 
12.8 to 13.2 is ideal for bikes. These engines rev way to high for a 14.7 afr. That's way to lean.......Start lean in lower rpm and throttle range.
Example:
From 3k rpm to 16k rpm at 0% to 30% throttle set to 13.2
From 3k rpm to 16k rpm at 40% to 60% throttle set to 13.1
"" "" 70% to 90% throttle set to 13
" " 100% throttle set to 12.8
Bazzaz does not tune under 3k rpm so if your bike stalls after blip'n the throttle play with the the auto tune untill you get close to 13.5 to 13.7 afr at idle....no load on the bike so lean at idle is fine....
 
r6rollin- it has a afr parameter you can key in and the autotune will make suggestions in achieving the afr you have set to tune for.

Dave_Stumph- Thanks mate! you get a cookie ;) very helpful/useful info! Without your info I was going to set it at 13.0 and see how that went but yours makes much better sense going up the rpm range :)
 
At part throttle, if this is a liquid-cooled engine (original post doesn't specify make/model/year ...), you can go FAR leaner than that. 15.5:1 won't cause problems at less than 20% throttle. Some engines might have a rough idle when set that lean - might need fine-tuning for that. Some engines might run a little warmer on the temperature gauge when set like that also, but it's not going to melt a piston or burn up a valve at such light engine load.

My street FZR400 (carb - but that doesn't matter) has been set up in "lean cruise" mode for years. That one doesn't show any different on the temp gauge, but it sure goes a whole lot further on a tank of fuel.
