Recommended camera for recording?

I have the contourHD, it's light weight and quite easy to attach and adjust. But the video quality isn't as good as the go pro, the hero3 got really good reviews, I vote for that.

does it look weird when you mount on your helmet or anything? anyone got a picture to show how they mount it

Tons of pics on google. And yes, the GoPro looks incredibly weird mounted to a helmet

Weird? For a Gopro? Considering it is a hugely popular product, I think it is the norm to see that on someones helmet as opposed to the less popular alternatives.

I personally like the new sony action cam... Had go pro 2 and did not like the design.

A GoPro is a rectangle, I little odd to see on a round object like a helmet. Whereas the Contour is cylindrical, which matches more closely with a round object.

While it is the "norm", I don't think one can deny its slightly odd to see it on a helmet.

Agreed. It may be "normal" to see...but it looks weird. A Drift and Contour both have a much lower profile.

drift ghost hd comes with awesome remote - two way. Buttons are big and easy to press while wearing gloves:Drift Active StatusTM Two-Way Remote with LED Lights
The Drift HD Ghost is the only action camera packaged standard with a wearable on/off remote control with LEDs and wrist strap. The strategically placed LED lights on the remote instantly communicate the mode currently in use displaying a color-coded system indicating Video, Photo, Timelapse or Photoburst modes. The remote also streamlines functionality by allowing users to take photos and change function modes from up to 30 feet (10m) away, as well as to start and stop recording. This saves precious memory space and battery life so you can capture a full day of activities without wasting time.

i know you can get the go pro in future shop/best buy but where do you get the other ones?

What are some places you guys look to see when they go on sale and such?

lol...this weekend while using it for the first time, I think people were more interested in the camera on my helmet rather than me or my sexy bike...

On a side note is there any way to avoid the little sun spots you get? I noticed a little one near the center on almost the whole ride's video. Its similar to this picture but smaller...

replay xd 1080 is on my short list.
very small form factor.

worth a look

I've been using 2 Replay XD 1080 cameras, on both my bike and in my car, for the last couple of years. The only issue is that I find the internal battery is only good for about an hour and 20 minutes when my commute home can run to an hour and a half, if there are any issues. I've been using the car lighter cables in my car, so no issue there.

Contour's are fantastic and you don't look like the great gazoo with one strapped to your helmet.

After finding that I move my head around like one of those Chihuahua bobbleheads, while I'm riding, I gave up on helmet mounting. I just put the cameras on my bike instead. I can't track stuff that way, but at least people don't get sea sick watching the video.
