Recommend a shield for my Icon Alliance helmet...

I picked up a second Icon Alliance helmet today. Seems nuts I know... However, my size large Alliance fits my wife perfectly and I really like my Blue Speedmetal Alliance so I picked up a Lucky version for a good deal.
As you can see I already swapped out the clear shield on my blue speedmetal for a blue tinted one:

The lucky version is pretty neat and has some nice details.

I am thinking that the gold tinted shield would be cool:

But the green might work well too...

Any thoughts?

Yes, every time you are faced with a decision in life post about it online ;)

BTW those shields scratch easily, id go with a dark regular tint.

Well, the blue tinted one on my blue speedmetal alliance has no scratches after one season. Dark tine though for the lucky? hmmm... Had not considered that one...

The gold is definitely the way to go for your helmet bud

I just recently got the cheiftain and im going to put a blue tint on there... if I can get it. Burlington cycle and royal both managed to order me the wrong shield, should've just ordered it myself.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you get any ride time in with the Chieftain? I have been really happy with my Alliance Speedmetal. Did not let any rain in during my wetrides. Lots of use on the 401 and I find the helmet pretty quiet with the vents closed. Lots of airflow when I open up the various vents. For the money I think it might be the best helmet in that $120-$200 range. I tried dozens of helmets on and this was one of a few that I actually found comfortable. I must have a weird shaped head. ;)

I am intrigued by the Airframe Carbon RR. Now, for that money you can get a Shoei 1100 with graphics. Then again, the Icon is offering a carbon fibre helmet for just over $500. I will certainly look into Icon again when one of my main helmet is due for replacement in about 4 years.

Nope not yet!, hopefully going to get my first ride of the season in on thursday or friday. Icon helmets are hands down the best bang for your buck!

Took your advice... Got the gold...

Nobody asked but here is an easy way to change shields on an Icon Alliance helmet.

Start with the helmet:

Open up your existing shield as far as it will go and remove your new shield from its packaging:

See this orange tab? There is one on each side. Push it forward towards the front of the helmet on each side. Doing so will unlock the existing shield allowing you to remove it. . Once the shield is removed you can remove the two side panels. They attach to the shields very strongly and you might worry that you will break something removing them. Don't worry. Just start to get a nail and then finger under the side panel and it will pop off. Set them aside for now and you will add it to the new shield AFTER it is on your helmet.

Now you can see what was holding the shield on in the first place:

Your new shield will fit into this slot almost like a key:

Once it is in place hold it there and using a finger from your other hand push the orange tab fully back towards the back of the helmet:

Once both sides are in and locked down you can put the side panels back on. I recommend putting the side panels back on AFTER the new shield is locked in place. If you put the side shields on the new shield before you put the shield onto the helmet you will not be able to see what you are doing as well and whether it is in place and locked properly.
Here is where you should be now:

Then click the side shields back in:

Voila! You have a new look now, or your old trashed shield is gone and a nice new one is in place:

The gold looks amazing on that design, I also have a gold shield for my alliance helmet.

Thanks :)

I am glad I went with the gold. Looks pretty good. I usually do not bother switching shields and wear the tint day and night. Will be interesting to see how the gold works with headlights etc at night.

Love my Alliance helmets. I wanted to pick up the Shakki for my wife but I could not find a deal on one so I snagged the lucky. Too bad they seem to have discontinued the Speedmetal Alliance variants this year though.. :(

That looks unreal! I got the chieftain helmet and want to either get a orange or blue visor. Awesome thread, thanks!

This is not the best pic (from my Cell phone) but this is my Blue Speedmetal with the stock clear shield:

And with the blue shield:

I think the blue would look awesome with your Chieftain. :)

Oh yeah, that blue would look sweet with it. Where did you order/buy the visor from? I'm thinking I should go ask if they could order one at GP or Royal. I ordered a pair of Alpinestar boots from GP and they were supposed to be here but got back ordered and pushed until may. I want to get the boots and visor asap! Then I will be ready to get a good ride in :)

Cheers!

I live in Guelph so Royal Distrubuting is an obvious place for me to price things out. The gold proshield was $38 before tax. Picked up a shield cleaning kit for $5 while I was at it. Just called in and asked for parts and they ordered it all in. Was in stock in less than two days.

The Armadillo gloves they sell are amazing. Tons of armour and really comfortable. Might look a bit over the top but they have a lot of protection; especially for the money. I like gauntlet/long gloves to keep crap and debris out of my jacket and also provide even more protection:

Might be the best gloves on the market for under $73. I will take some pics of them when I get home from work.

My boots are by Altimate and that is one thing I would change in the future. Mine are super comfy and have decent protection. However, they are lace up and even though I double knot I am kind of paranoid about one coming undone and the laces getting somewhere I don't want them to when I am riding. My next pair will go up even higher, have more armour/protection, and have some kind of snap sort of system instead of lacing up. Live and learn...

Quick tip...don't ride through a car wash.

I loved how dark blue/chrome my Shark RSR2 visor was (HJC with pink visor on the back):

The blue mirror one (scored a bunch of em for $17 from Motorcycle Superstore!) on my Scorpion EXO-400 Urban Destroyer isn't as dark, but fits the helmet pretty good I think!

Two years on that visor, no scratches but a few stone chips, still on the original one!!

Cool visor photo taken by my 2upper:
