Randomly stuck inbetween gears?

I'm getting stuck in between gears if I don't hit the shifter hard enough, I think it's my own problem (it only happens briefly then just jumps down or up). But sometimes it'll jump down a gear. Is this my problem or the clutch? =/

What oil are you using? What bike? (just testing a theory here)

GS500F. 10W-40

I haven't had to top off the oil yet (I'm not even sure if I'm checking the oil right though lol) so I don't know what brand the previous owner used.

I don't know if there is any legitimacy to this... I was told by someone at a dealer that full syn can cause gear slippage in a wet clutch bike... again, I am not saying this is true or not.
 
My suzuki gs500f was doing the same. Once I got my M i sold it cuz it was so annoying. I just put it to abuse as i was the 8th owner and figured the bike was abused.

It would be the clutch that slips, not the gears.
 
Not catching the next gear when you shift is more technique and/or oil age and choice. If the trans jumps out of gear by itself as you are riding, then that is something totally different and mechanical in nature. Synthetics formulated for cars can make the clutch slip, but not the transmission. Oil formulated for motorcycles is always a better choice because of the additives that help the clutch and transmission. But let's not start another oil war.
 
lower the shifter pedal by one tooth on the spine, so you dont have to lift your foot off the peg when shifting up.
 
Curious, I have an 86 GS 750 and have always had the same problem, It seems hard to shift at times. damn near breaks my foot !
 
Thats exactly what was happening to mine. I'd hit it up like i always would and sometimes it wouldn't engage the higher gear. Then sometimes coming to a stop, i bang it down all the way, and it would stay in second, then i'd have to really hit it to get into first.
