r800gs Owners

I had a 2006 r1200gs. I loved that bike, but it was very expensive to maintain. I needed to rebuild the rear hub twice and it's not cheap.

I'm thinking about buying a F800gs Adventure and was looking for some feedback from owners regarding reliability

I'd also be interested on how you find it on the highway. Is the twin buzzy? Do you get a lot of vibes through the bars. What's the 21 inch front wheel like. Is it difficult to turn?

I looked at the new 1200 but the thing is huge compared to the 06. I think I prefer the size of the 800.

Thanks

Sorry. Typed on an iPhone so I got my r and f mixed up and can't edit the title

Had one for 4 years, great bike. No issues with reliability, but parts are expensive (BMW). Took lot's of small trips with it, it's great on the highway, has some vibes, but nothing too bad, you get used to it. Steering is not difficult with the 21 inch wheel. Infact, it falls into corners quite easily.

No issue with the 21" at the front. I rode it from Toronto, through Labrador, through Newfoundland and back, on knobby tires, and it was great! Here's a video of the trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12X0bBeZW6U

No issues with the bike either. It's not the most exciting bike to ride, but if you're looking for long distance it's really good. I originally wanted the R1200GS, but it didn't work out, so I got the 800, and in the end, I preferred it as it is much lighter and easier to maneuver than the 1200. suspension is also very forgiving, so you can go over some ridiculous obstacles with the thing. After a while with the bike, you no longer see curbs as a barrier, merely a small bump in the road that you just plow over. It's the most off-road worthy bike that BMW currently makes, if that is of any interest to you.

I would say the only issue with the bike was the rear-side fuel door. It's actually a bit of a pain when you have luggage back there to get to the fuel door. I prefer the oldskool fuel tank (although if you have a tank bag, it too is in the way, so you just can't win). The only thing is that you're spraying your luggage with fuel every time you fill up - it's just a weird design feature. But I guess if that's my only complaint, it can't be that bad.
