Hey guys so a friend of mine is leaving in about an hour to pick up his bike. I just wanted to get an opinion from you guys regarding the price..

The bike: 2006 Honda CBR 1000RR
KM: 4200

Original owner.. has 2 keys and original owners manual

Everything is stock, the rider is super mature, the bike is in MINT condition...I couldn't see any damages anywhere..except a very minor scuff on the rear cawl since he had a bag mounted there. The bike basically sat in his garage for 2 years..and he would start it up here and there to keep the engine running.


The price he agreed upon is $5800, and he is throwing in the trickle charger which he used over the winter...

Fair price? I said it was an okay price since the bike is practically brand new and just broken in..and if he were to sell it next season the mileage would still be under 10k

I can't for the life of me figure out how you can get a scuff mark (depending on if it actually scratched through a layer of paint) from a mounted bag.
 
It seems like a good price due to low KM - There is a sticky in here with a checklist on what to look for.

You can get an 08 GSXR 600 for 6300k with about 9k on it just for comparison.

My bad, I didn't explain it through, the bag is mounted via clip-on similar to a knapsack so the scuff is from the plastic clips that are rubbing on the cowl (It hugs it) I wish I remembered the brand it looked really nice, but the space in it was minimal..

Seems like a reasonable price, and according to kijiji he could sell it next season for 10,000$ :lmao:

I hope this isn't your buddies first bike...

Sounds like your buddy has already bought the bike....now its a matter of what can he sell it for later.
 
Sounds like a good deal. For used bikes, you are bound to have a few scratches here and there.

I am more concern about sitting in the garage for 2 years and whether those 4200km are track km...

But $5800 is a good deal.
 
Yeah the deal was set, under one condition - that he would verify that the insurance doesn't double up on him from his gixxer 600. It's not his first bike he also had a 2008 CBR 600RR which he got rid of for $3450!!! with less then 10k on it. It's opening up a whole new can of worms so I wont start..

I guess the can of worms has been opened! :D Long story short; He originally bought the bike from a place called GTA Exotics; At the time he was a new rider and didnt know much about the bike and what to look for. That guy basically sold him the bike which had a bent handlebar (hard to tell by looking at it.. if you had a full turn with the steering bar fully pushed out you fingers can get squished against the frame of the bike), besides that the front rim was bent.. and finally the VIN number was tempered with!! I donno how but all of that was overlooked.

Anyhow my friend did notice the rim and was willing to fix it...the issue all started when he went to safety it.. that's when they found out the vin was tempered with and can't get the safety. On top of all that the guy signed a paper saying that it's guaranteed to pass safety or he would refund the money (cash). Also we found out later that the bike was registered under his company name and NOT his name..

After he wouldn't honor the letter, my friend took him to court; It turned out that the ownership he had wasn't even the right one for this bike!!! Basically his ownership was the bike of the GTA Exotic was riding.. same bike same year same color... so things got really complicated at the same time a COP was looking for his (tempered VIN) bike as it was registered stolen or something.

So after spending a few grand with lawyer fees and almost 2 years back and forth he went to 2 court appearance it looked like my friend was gonna win as he even had the cop as a witness on his side..the judge pretty much guaranteed it because of many factors such as: selling the bike when it didn't meet the standards to put it on the street, didn't honor his letter, tempered VIN, etc.. So for the last and final count appearance the guy never showed up.. I went with him and the judge threw out the case.. He says that the guys business had filed a bankruptcy and because of that there's nobody to pursue since the bike wasn't registered directly under the persons name but rather a corporation...

So that's why he was just bitter and wanted the thing out of sight.. a co-worker bought it. I wasn't even aware that he was selling it.. if anything I'm certain all of the issues could be fixed under $2000.

****** deal...in that case i would've probably done the same thing as your friend...cut my losses.

Oh yes, he can now pretty much take any bike apart and put it back! And knows exactly what to look for :P I'm excited to check out his new ride as soon as i'm out of the office here :)

Seems like a good deal for that cbr 1000, ive noticed the 1000's tend to be cheaper due to less demand i blame our insurance prices.

sounds like he bought one of their rental bikes, thats messed up about the vin and besides the $ im sure he can be charged criminally, your friend wouldnt get any $ but vin swaps are not legal no matter how you cut it.

stories like this (sorry to say) make me even happier that ive got a friend that does the vin checks for me, i get 3-5 different reports, i wont even go see a car or bike without doing a vin check... ive come across some that seemed fair until the vin kicks back as in repossession or something else, and another claimed to be a 1st owner but it turned out to be a car that was from the states and was written off because a tree landed on it...(seriously, that showed in the report but no pics)

first thing i did was google them again too..still in business and i think that humber gives you a discount on rentals there with your M1 exit course, ive looked at renting there before but never did because ive heard some bad stories about them turning the cars off through gps if you go over 120km then charging you to tow it back.

wow what the heck!! This guy sure knows what he is doing...He must have re-opened the business under a different name or something.... The owner at the time was Wilson I don't know if he is still operating this business.... Just a word of advice to avoid this guy at all cost..

they have reduced their inventory by the looks of it.
they use to have the CBR600rr, GSXr600rr, ninja 500, and then a big lineup of harleys.
then they use to have a bunch of escalades on big rims, H2's and i think a H1.
then there was the exotic sports cars, and the luxury cars like Rolls.
 
I won't have touched that bike unless it was for a track bike
