Actually wind noise is extremely hard on hearing. With many helmets generating over 100db of noise to the rider at over 100kph that's a lot of potential hearing damage in the making.

OT, but a Japanese pharmaceutical company has a drug that has been shown to restore hearing caused by noise damage and hair cell loss in animal models. It's in clinical trials right now.
