Question about cbiusa.com - Fedex shows my parcel is there, but...

I order a mounting rack for a top case and had it shipped to CBI.

Question: FedEx tracking says that my part was delivered at CBI on tuesday. I registered with CBI so I am supposed to get email notification, but so far nothing. Any ideas? Do they always let you know when you have parcels waiting for you? I don't want to go unless I know the box is there. Their phone is busy all the time.

BTW, if anyone is going to cbiusa.com (NIagara Falls) tomorrow Oct 20 or next Saturday to pick up parcels, can you please let me know? Maybe we can split the gas costs

they generally don't send out notifications of package arrival, at least not for me. you can email them to verify that its there.

When FedEx says it has been delivered it is there. As far as I know they don't send email notifications I am also registered but never got one. Just email them and ask or try phoning again, usually phones are less busy early in the mornings.

They won't notify you of packages arriving unless you actually have a paid membership plan with them.

You can email them, they are pretty good about answering back. Just send them your name and the tracking number and tell them you plan on picking it up on Saturday (or whenever you plan on going).

This!
They wont tell you when its there unless you've got a box in your name there.

Otherwise if you want someone to pick it up for you make sure you cotnact them beforehand (at cbi) to make them aware and id also forward the invoice (if you have one by email) to the guy so he can use it at the customs when he comes back.

What he said. If you're on the pay per package plan then no notifications. Emailing them is usually quick. They normally can track down your package in the warehouse even if you show up unannounced.

even with a paid package, they don't email you upon receipt of package

you do get access to a tracking page where they log all your received parcels with the associated tracking number
definitely handy

Well, I used CBI for the first time. No issues to report. I used USA Address Inc before (like 3 years ago), and I thought I would share my impressions. These are the main differences:

Presentation:
CBI has a better, clearer website. The warehouse seems to be very well organized, they go to the back and get your box in no time.

USA Address seems to be a smaller, crowded place, it looks like a big mess, but they go to the back and get your box in no time.

So even when they look different, they perform the same way.

Distance:
From my place to
USA Address (3909 Witmer Rd, Niagara Falls, NY 14305) is 157 kms
CBI (1711 Cudaback Ave Niagara Falls, NY 14303) is 155 kms

So the distance is the same according to Google maps

Cost per box for non-renters: About the same, USA Address is $5 and CBI is $6. but CBI does not charge storage fees!! And USA Address does.

Crossing: To go to CBI you use the Rainbow Bridge (no commercial trucks allowed) so the waiting times are less.

Winner by a hair: CBI USA because no storage fees and because crossing the border to get there is faster

I use http://www.freightboy.ca , $5 to receive even a huge package, and they'll hold it for a week for free.

The reason I use them? They'll actually forward the freight to you in Canada, or drive it across the border to their St. Catherine's office for ya!

I'll be heading down there on Wed prolly.

I've been using CBI for easily over 10 years and its awesome. If you do register a P.O box in your name then you can check the website for when your package has arrived. Everything is tracked and available for you to see at anytime. I have a box split with 4 people so it's $25 a year each. After 3-4 items it pays for itself. The staff are great as well.

ask them bout their unlisted brokerage fees and picking up on the 7th day was an extra $15

im a big fan of U.S. Address. they may seem sketchy, but i find they put a touch more effort into their dealings with you, if you're nice. i bring them coffee &/or doughnuts once in a while and get great service.

I have always used US Address Inc (quite a few times actually) and I HATE crossing on Queenston/Lewiston - the lineups always seem to be way longer than on Rainbow bridge. Will try CBI USA next time just because of Rainbow bridge crossing. 125 km to CBI, 127 km to US Address for me.

I'm supposed to pick up my package today, I guess we'll find out :)

Lets say the package weight is 12 lbs, and you could have it delivered next day to you door customs clearance included for $58.00 (except duties and taxes), would that be better than driving down to pick it up?

thats the trade-off.

for some people the the cost of picking it up from the states is less than shipping would be.

some people live right across from the border (niagara) and its easy to stop over to get packages.
