Power Commander and Autotune Installation

Hey guys, I need a bit of help on autotune installation on my bike. My 04 R1 does not have an O2 sensor and I would be needing to weld the autotune sensor in. my question is where is the best possible location on the Y-pipe (or anywhere else for the best reading) to weld it in? if anyone got pics it would be a great help too.

Btw I went to one our reputable bike shops in town and I was told if they want to do this for me it would cost 250-300. Seriously??? You want to charge me 300 for putting a hole in the pipe and weld it. It is sad some of these bike shops try to take advantage of people.

Anyway any help is appreciated.. Also I have taken out the CAT and the pipes have been debaffled if it makes a difference.

Thanks,
Adam

i was talking to a tuner a while ago, and he said best spot is 8 inches back from where all the pipes join as long as there is no cat or servo, and with that said sometimed you cant do that because the exhaust is soo short (side exit like on gsxr)
on my cbr i have it half way between my servo and my cat, because thats the only spot it will fit and that is also where bazzaz said to put it.

to get the exhaust bung welded on i bought a stepped drill bit and made the hole myself, i was about to bring it into work to have it sent out to be welded on but stopped at Zoro and they welded it on for free.just bring the pipe in and maybe a timmies card for them.

Thanks guys, so i guess since i have taken the cat out then i gotta weld it in around where the cat used to be.

also it is suppose to be at a certian angle to avoid any debree and moisture from getting into the sensor.
If you are putting it on a section of pipe going up it wouldnt matter, but if it runs along under the bike where I have mine its suppose to be as close to 90 degres as possible without it interfeering with the rest of the bikes moving parts (suspension and chain etc.).
I think i have mine at about 50 degrees. I can post a pic later if you need it, mine is nicely tucked behind where my kickstand folds up into.

No prob. Its gona be 1am ish...I gota rip the suspension out of my car when i get off work.
Keep in mind im on a 600rr, only thing similar is we both have undertail exhaust.

How did you eliminate the cat? Cut and weld in?
Stepped drillbits are cheap at princess auto.. but check to see if canadian tire happens to have them on sale.

sounds good. taking out the cat on 04 r1 is pretty easy , no need to cut the pipe, i just hammered it out.

make sure you plan where the sensor will be with your lower plastics as well. mine i measured so it tucks perfectly behind the kickstand, and the wire follows the kickstand kill switch/sensor up so it was easy to tie in properly.
i didnt take any pics of that though, sorry.

so the y-pipe is out and ready to be drilled, the question is how hard it is to drill it (i guess ill find out tomorrow) , here is where im gonna drill it, let me know what you think; btw thx for all the help and inputs

im in Markham, i actually managed to make hole using a a drill and rotary tool. piece by piece its coming together and i just need to weld it and install it on the bike. cant wait to play around with the maps once i get the pcv and autotune on the bike.
