Police and bait bikes. . .

With bike theft on the rise yet again for 2013 I wanted to know why police don't use bait bikes?

I had my bike stolen last year and the effort and response time was less then satisfactory. I wanted to know if anyone had contact with law enforcement. I am willing to provide the bike, tracking equipment ect . . . I just need to know that law enforcement will be available at the time of the act.

Post any advice or PM me if you have any contacts.

Thanks

They are to busy with speed traps to solve real crime.

Probably because they would have a hard time catching the bike. Or the bike would only be able to be used once each bait due to the thief probably crashing and destroying it.

I'm guessing not worth their effort since not many motorcycles get stolen compared to bicycles.

Why don't we do a bait bike our self and some vigilante justice. Anyone want to sacrifice their R1?

Most of the time they just put it in a Van or trailer and drive off with stolen plates I think it should be easy enough . . .

Thing with bait cars they usually leave it running so a random person will take it. If you left a sports bike running all you'll get are random people revving the shiit outta of it.

I believe that bait vehicles were deemed illegal in Ontario. The police can do this in Vancouver, where they can also disable the engine, lock the doors and turn the hazard lights on.

it is doable, and with used 600cc SS bikes around the cost would be decent compared to the cars usually used as bait.
for the same price you could get 4-5 bikes.

best approach would probably be 1-2 week stints in various condo parking lots in GTA. setting the bike up for a few days to let it get scoped, chosen and attempted to be stolen. tho it would take more man power with fewer arrests compared to a bait car. bait car can nab multiple thieves at once. a bike would need to placed, watched and waited on for possibly days to get the van that comes and takes em from condo parking lots.... so probably not worth the police time and $ whcih would need to be invested to catch a few van runners stealing bikes.

just my $0.02 off the top of my head. then i can i could be wrong and my reasoning flawed.

Law enforcement in canada is not concerned with anything that involves actual work.
They would rather set up speed traps where a speed limit reduces and is downhill, or go after law abiding gun owners whose license just expired. No real threat and they can justify their close to 100,000$ salary this way...

BTW i proposed such an idea to several people involved in law enforcement in my local area, the response was "That's what insurance is for."

Really?

With today's technology you have to have several police officers sitting there for several weeks?

How about you put a camera on the bike, and have one of the many many cops out there who are on administrative duty who should be criminally charged instead and fired and who are still getting paid sit there and watch the damn camera instead.
****, get a motion sensor as well to wake the cop up once in a while as well.

people like that are why the current state of insuring anything sucks. Why work when you can sip your timmies and hand out "racing" tickets all day.

Haven't you noticed that's how the entire world works? No one actually wants to do anything, they just want to sit around and get paid for using their iphone. Cops are no different, this level of entitlement and laziness is like a disease.

you need someone to ride the bait bike around few hours a day too so that it attracts the thieves. Maybe pose a few at Timmies before heading back into the condo parking lot.

Yup, Toronto's finest... :angry7:

Why don't you track down some Detective Sergeants email addresses of the bigger police dept's in Toronto / Peel (22) / York etc. They all have auto theft departments. Send them the URL to this thread?

So they can browse gta while having a timmies? Odd that I just noticed there was a show on about using cars as bait in places like California and Texas. Man there's some stupid *** people out there

We should start stealing cop bikes see how they like it.

Bwaaaaa!!!! Hahahaha! Yeeeeaaa! I love it! I'd totally do it!
It's only a matter of time until i snag myself an unattended laser sitting on a tripod! Haha!

Yeah, this is not just cops. Where I work, we are pretty lax on enforcing any real rules, but you are expected to work when there is work to be done. The number of kids we've hired that feel like theyre owed a job and can just sit on facebook all day is mind boggling. They dont last long, because pressure from their coworkers for not carrying their weight forces them out. Then they complain they werent given enough instruction.

Plus they all want 80k a year for entry level (we pay really, really well, but not unrealistically well).

Same story on my work. New kids come in thinking they should just get it all handed to them and be able to sit and do as little as possible. It gets on everyone's nerves.

In for the pic of assassin with cherries on his sport bike :P
