Hello. My name is Sergio. im a fairly new member to this forum. i Recently got my hands on an 84 Magna V30. it had a very rusty reserve tank. and so i set off on fixing that and cleaning the carb and what not. i got the reserve properly coated and all is fine. i was putting everything back together, and im stuck on a small wire harness. i have some pictures of it here:

with out that harness, i continuously blow the 10a ignition fuse. i also had some problems with the fuel pump. i think its gone. but i am new at all of this. first bike. basic mechanical and electrical know how.

Does anyone have any experience with this Bike?

Thanks for reading this! Much appreciated!

I can tell you this much Sergio, getting a response to a question like this for a bike like yours on this forum is : Probaly never going to happen. Got a problem with a newer sport bike, post the question here and the responses are like you would never believe it. Being hanging around this forum since 2002 so I know.

Do you have any idea how this was connected before you removed it? I see 5 terminals (rings and tongue) and possible 3 other connectors. Did you disconnect the entire thing when removing the tank?

That harness does not look like original-equipment. The connectors and fuses aren't consistent with how OEM's do things - not even how they did things 27 years ago. I see all sorts of un-sealed and un-insulated wiring there.

And given that it isn't original equipment ... without further information (like, what's it connected to, and how) it's very hard for a third party (like, anyone reading this thread) to be of much help, unless you miraculously land on whoever invented this contraption in the first place.

I think it's time to sit down with a wiring diagram and a multimeter, put the wiring on the bike all back to stock, and start systematically troubleshooting to find the cause of the short circuit in the +IGN circuit.

Agreed. I had an '86 V30. it was my 3rd bike, and the 1st one I ever bought new. As far is I can remember, the only ring terminals that the original wire harness used were at the battery, the starter, and the chassis grounds. That fuse holder is definitely not OEM.
