Play in Steering damper

LOL

The damper body is clamped into a mount, and the damper rod has a mount attached to its end. The mounts have heim joints.

You're wrong. Scroll up for a demonstration of why you're wrong.

Hey Rob do that thing where you moderate the forum and end this thread at post #2, because the rest is BS that is now deducing into a discussion of semantics.

Who **** in your cornflakes?

The OP's description was vague. It turns out that the play he was describing is perfectly normal.

If the big nut on top of the upper triple clamp is loose it may permit the damper body bracket to shift (this happend with the Ohlins damper on my 04 10R). If the bolts holding the damper rod bracket to the frame are loose that may also permit some play. If the seals in the damper are gone and there are air bubbles that may also give the impression of 'play'.

In closing, you're acting like a ******.

I'm not acting like anything, Im pointing out misinformation when I see it. We narrowed the answer down very early in this thread, but people like farstar stick to their guns even when they're obviously wrong. If someone is asking a question and he gets the wrong answer, he might go out there and start tinkering with a perfectly functional damper and break it. That's not right, IMO.

OP said he has play in his DAMPER, not his mounts and not anything else. He used the word "swivel" and he confirmed that the bolts are tight. Pretty damn clear indication of what was going on, no? Cmon.

Often when someone says/writes 'steering damper' I imagine the whole kit including mounts. His description of what was happening was somewhat vague.

You're being obtuse. No, it's not a clear indication of what was going on. Your interpretation was correct but my initial thought was that his stem castle nut might have been loose and the upper bracket had some slop that let it swivel (there's that funky word again) on the stem.

Thanks Rob for pointing the green lines at the mounts for me :)

The damper, to me anyway, is the actual device doing the 'damping'. Those things attached to it are mounts. But I understand where you were going, talking about the other mount(s) which differ depending on application.

I believe the OP should set his bike on fire and buy a new one without a steering damper.

The steering damper "mounts" are bolted to the bike. They are purchased separately, based on which bike the damper is going to be attached.

Your initial thought was that he had an actual problem. My initial thought was that he had never seen a steering damper and had no clue how they work or mount to a bike. Lets go post in another thread now.

Which part is the mount here?

You wanna know whats unbelievable? People who don't wave.

I think they're called "harley riders"

Thanks mmmnaked. Looks like I have nothing to worry about. Just going over my new bike with a fine tooth cone. Cant ride it, might as well go over it.

I'm more interested in seeing a picture of this fine tooth cone. Is it a fine tooth ice cream cone or fine tooth traffic cone? Or summat completely different?
