Picked up a new-to-me bike :)

Picked up an '03 ZZR250 last night for cheap! Only has 4,520 kms on it. It suffered a minor drop on the left side in a parking lot, but the damage is only cosmetic. It has sat since 2006, so it needs some love. New battery, carb cleaning, new rubber and fork seals, etc. A little winter project. :)

It will be used on the track next summer. A bike I won't actually mind crashing. ;)

I didn't buy it yet...
Going to see it in the afternoon.

Sweet! :)

A friend of mine purchased a '99 R1 track bike the other day. It will be stored in my garage over the winter. Funny, because as of Saturday, there will be one of each of the Japanese big 4 in my garage, as well as a GIO. LOL!

I'm going to have to try my best to not fall in love with this little ZZR. It's just so damn cute. If it had cheeks, I'd pinch them. ;)

My wifes first bike was a 05 zzr 250, and she loved it
I always thought it would of made a good track bike.

$1000 is a steal...... Good buy

Wow! $1000 for a zzr250 with 4.5k kms on it. Crazy good deal!

I put out the feelers for a cheap 250 that I could track and a friend of mine saw this posted on craigslist and shot me the link in a PM (thanks again, 00ninja! I owe you many a fine single malt!). The guy who owned it is moving to Hong Kong, so he just wanted it gone. Listed it for $1200 but let it go for $1000. Told me I was the first person to inquire about it after he listed it on Monday. I'm sure if he had listed it on kijiji instead, it would have been gone the same day as listing. I never look at craigslist and I think most people stick to kijiji as well. If 00ninja hadn't seen the ad, I would never have known about it.

It's in excellent condition cosmetically aside from some scrapes and a small crack near the front left turn signal from being dropped. Nothing some paint and a zip-tie can't fix. It doesn't run, but I wouldn't expect it to after sitting so long. The first order of business will be downloading the mechanics manual for it, draining/replacing the old fuel and fluids, giving it a thorough carb cleaning, and a new battery. See if I can get it running first, then start dealing with the rest of the maintenance stuff it's in need of.

;)

No problem! I'll have to find the time to see you take out on the track next summer.

whoa, that is REALLY cheap!

Here are some new pics of the little bike. As it turns out, it has actually been dropped on both sides. I don't mind that it's been dropped a couple times, but I wish the PO hadn't lied and said it was only dropped once. Lies are a pet peeve of mine. C'est la vie, right?

Put in a new battery last night, fully charged up. I figured the engine should at least crank and want to start. Nope. It sounds seized. Click, half second wrrrr noise and then nothing. Looks like I'll be tearing into it more than I had hoped I would need to.

You bought a bike without hearing it run?

You bought the bike without the owner having to cold start it for you?? There might be a reason why someone in Ontario (where used prices are a joke) let it go for 1000 bucks ....

It could have been dropped once but both sides got scratched, not unheard of ..... but again that is something you'd have seen, just walking around the bike before buying? Or were you just so excited that you handed the cash over? I hope not ....

His garage was very dark, and I picked it up at 10:30 at night so it was dark outside too. I knew upfront that it didn't run. Didn't even have a battery in it. The PO was honest that it hadn't been started since 2006.
