Peak Design - 40% Off Sale Motorcycle Mounts

I had a phone camera get fried for vibration. Fortunately work just got me a new one.

I don’t trust anti vibration systems. Unless they dampen 100% of the relevant frequencies, I figure it’s just a matter of time.

As for ecosystem lock- it’s a good thing that one exists for the Quadlock. It’s not nearly as binding, say, as a phone OS ecosystem. I have a lot of RAM mount accessories - probably two shoeboxes full of them- so one might say I’m locked in there. I’m glad that ecosystem was broad enough for it to satisfy that many needs.

Big - and delayed - shout out and thank you to @Evoex who gave me the stem mount. I was curious and it is indeed as nice as described. The quality really shines through in a way that neither my RAM nor Quadlock mounts do. I knew their camera stuff was top-notch, but now I know their mounts are too. Thank you @Evoex - it was a real pleasure meeting you.

I also found some 3d models that work with their mounts or cases. I did a few prints and they were terrible (prints), and I didn't have a case yet so couldn't test them. But the idea that maybe we could print or design our own accessories is neat.

The pleasure was mine, sorry not sorry to your neighbors! 😁

Peak Design makes some really nice stuff. I have a bunch of their gear for travel and equipment.

The Motorcycle Mount is sleek, well-designed, and compact. I know many riders report success with it, particularly regarding vibration protection via the built-in dampener. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been my experience.

I used both the original Ball Mount and the new Charging Mount Qi2 with my iPhone 12 mini on a 2024 KTM 390 Duke (a high-revving single-cylinder). After about 1200 km of commuting, my phone’s main camera developed OIS failure. The issue started shortly after switching to the charging mount, though I can’t rule out cumulative damage from both.

Peak Design handled the situation very well, fully reimbursing the mount and the Apple repair. That said, I’ve stopped using the mount on the bike. I still love their gear and will keep using it off the motorcycle, but if your ride has similar vibration characteristics, I’d be cautious. The system might not be suited for all bikes.

That's amazing that they paid for the Apple repair. For an iPhone 12, that must have been a substantial amount of money. Good for them!

I am indeed cautious with vibration dampeners. None of them claim (understandably) to dampen all the relevant frequencies, so if some of them are getting through I figure it's just a matter of time before cumulative damage sets in. So if I need to have a phone mounted, I plan to use one I consider one I consider disposable. That's my problem with Peak Design, the "disposable" phones I have now predate the PD cases. They do have a universal solution I think.
