Painting Exhaust Headers GSXR 600

Anyone know anything about painting the exhaust headers on a racebike? Is it going to be enough to use some high-temp BBQ paint or something to that extent? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

BBQ paint will not survive. At Canadian Tire, you can get something called VHT (very high temperature) paint, which will survive for a little while if you paint it and cure it precisely according to the directions, and it still won't survive the very hottest area up near the cylinders for very long, and its abrasion and corrosion resistance are not very good in my experience.

If it's something that matters, best bet is to have the headers ceramic-coated. There are a few places around who can do this.

I have some stuff from CT rated to 1200 C, even that won't do?

Probably F, not C, and no, it won't stand up.

The VHT stuff is rated to 1500 F and it's marginal.

Ceramic coating (by someone with the right materials and equipment to do it properly) is the way to go, and that *will* stand up.

Ah you are right, it is 1200 F (650 C). Manifold paint sounds like a winner, though. I mean it's designed exactly for this purpose, right? Ceramic coating sounds... expensive, heh.
