Owner ship and insurance

You need to have the original pink slips issued by your insurance company( there is a reason as to why they give you more than one and a reason why they are "pink slips") only exception would be if you just purchased the vehicle/motorcycle and your insurance company emailed you temp slips. Once you get the real slips in the mail you throw away temp slips.

As for the ownership, photocopy is OK but must be a true photocopy

I've never had mine get all screwed up so I don't get the need for copies is all. I keep it in a little wallet that you typically get from insurance companies and looks just like the day I got it new.

Photocopy of ownership is fine ( I was told it had to be signed though)
I have an original pink slip for insurance...they send me 6 copies anyway, so why not use an original ;)

Copy of the registration is fine, says so right at the bottom of the registration certificate;

"Ontario law requires that this permit or a true copy be carried in the vehicle for which it was issued while the vehicle is being operated on a highway."

I make a color double sided copy of my registration and highlight that bit at the bottom.

I keep an original PINK insurance slip ... like others have said, the Insurance company sends you 5 pink 'originals'... take one of them and have it with you when you ride.
For the vehicle ownership, I keep a double-sided copy of my registration that's been notarized by an attorney. I make a true copy and get it notarized every year.

guys, the reason for photocopy is
if you have an original ownership paper, you can sell the car/motorbike
if you have an original insurance paper, nothing you can do

in wallet? what if someone drive/ride it, or simply forget your wallet

I used to carry photocopies, until I was pulled over while riding in the States (New York state), and had to spend three hours waiting for the cop to verify all my info... AND I was lucky he was a nice guy, because he could have forced me to get someone at home to courier the originals to me before letting me go.
Since then my ownership and insurance stay with the bike at ALL times. What's he big deal anyway?! Why risk giving 'grumpy' cop the opportunity to give you a hard time? AND THEY CAN!

If you plan on carrying the original ownership keep it on you not on the bike. If stolen the thief can use the original to transfer the ownership, with a copy he can't. If you want to leave it on the bike use a photocopy of both sides.

It's 2 pieces of paper. They don't take a lot of space. I have the ownerships and insurance for all my vehicles in my wallet. My wallet isn't very thick.

Hi:

My car was broken into last night and the vehicle registration and insurance was stolen. I need to get a new one now.

I doubt a 13 year old vehicle that's seen better days is at risk for being transferred away by a tweaker, but is there something I am able to record at the Ministry when I go for a replacement?

Don't forget that the little sticker (serial number) for your plate must be on the back of your registration as well.
