Oil changes on the road

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice.

I'm planning a long road trip, probably about 7-8k. I'm going to need to change my oil 2k into it (according to schedule). Did anyone ever get their oil changed on the road? I always do it myself, I don't even know who does bike oil changes. Any oil place or only motorcycle places?

I'm perfectly comfortable doing it myself (even without a stand) but I need at least an oil pan to drain the old stuff. Would a typical shop lend me one for an hour?

I'm assuming it's not a good idea to ride 8k on the same oil, even if I change it before I go?

Thanks in advance

Personally I'd do a change a bit early, just before the trip, and not bother with it while on the road. That is unless your bikes oil needs to be changed before 8k, then you need to do one on the road.

If you can do your own oil changes then I would suggest you do one before you leave on your trip.
It will be fine for 7-8K.
When you get back you can change it again.
This way you do not have to worry about finding a shop to do it for you.

8k? I'd probably do what Mikbusa suggested. On a 10k trip I had a dealer do the change for me. It's expensive.

If you want to do it cheap, you can buy a pretty cheap pan from Crappy Tire while on the road and do it yourself. Then toss out the pan. Still far cheaper than paying a dealer.

wherever you go, ask the locals for a motorcycle shop, or just google. You can try going to Advrider.com and maybe a local could help you out there. If you can go more than 8k on the oil change, I would just do it right now and avoid hassle.

Full synthetic change right now and you're good for the trip. E-z-breezy.

Crappy tire (as well as most auto/home stores) has the oil change kits (pan, funnels, rubber gloves, spill mats, etc), Amsoil synth, a few crappy Fram oil filters and crush washers. Toss the kit out when complete, give the old oil to the garage for proper disposal and merrily ride on your way.

I have always changed my oil before I take a trip and then don't worry about it. My annual trips are 4 weeks + and generally are 12 - 15,000 Kms. My dealer mechanic has no problems with this tactic as long as I eventually get the recommended service as per warranty.

Now tires are another thing...

Go to the dollar store and get a $1 paint tray. I don't know what type of oil you use but it can be found at tons of bike shops. I did my oil change about 6500 KM into my 11,500km trip.
