Wrong section but i need advance ASAP and since this section gets the most hits.... well here goes...

So i recently obtained a copy of my personal credit report from equifax and i noticed that everything on the account is WRONG. The only thing they have right is my SIN, my name and my previous address.

My D.O.B on file is 1974 WTF? I was born in 1990... It says i have 6 credit cards while i only have one... My only credit card isn't even on the report WTF?

Whats the best way to go about fixing this?

Thanks

They should have also provided you with a copy of the form to fix any errors.

I'd call first, but you will likely have to fill in that form for every "instance" of an error (such as having other credit cards removed, etc.).

Identity theft?

Call Equilfax fast. The same thing happened to my sister when she went to get a mortgage. She has great credit, but her twin brother has huge debts and they were attributed to her credit rating by mistake (probably because they share a birthday). She hired a lawyer because she was in a hurry, but when equilfax recognized the mistake they corrected it instantly.

If the person on the phone can't help you. There's an Equifax location just at the concourse level here at Yonge and Finch. I can go down and ask them what you'll need in order to correct the information if you like.

LMK

I called them but all they said was write a letter saying that this isn't my file and that they should investigate. Can't they do this for me over the phone rather then mail it in?

I also called trans union and they're like "Sorry, we can't help you because you got the security questions wrong" The questions was, which company did you receive your last rebate from CIBC, HSBC and some other bank names...I kept telling them none of them as i've never even been associated with them...

You'll probably get the same response as i did over the phone. Thanks though.

I asked them about this but they said just write a letter stating the mistake and they'll investigate. going to write a letter to them asap, but i doubt this will get fixed anytime soon...

It can't be done over the phone because they need the request in writing and with your signature. Anyone could call in.

Good luck.

Yes but they confirmed that it was me (Asked for SIN #, visa #, etc) and that they acknowledged the mistake.

Is the credit rating of the mystery person better than your own? if so.. scores!!! lol

Yes all 6 credit cards have a ranking of R1 (Best) except for one. But if he gets into debt and can't pay things off, a debt agency will go after ME because it has my SIN. They won't be able to collect money from me but its a PIA
