Northern Ontario loop in Mid July including N Superior and some Ottawa Valley 533

I'm heading up to Manatoulin on The 11th or 12th. I hear there is heavy construction on 6 south of Tobermory, so plan extra time. You don't want to miss a ferry.

In my experience, the construction crews are pros--they organize traffic flow and don't fool around. Ten minutes would be considered a long delay, if they're working. I was up there mid-June and the roads were in good condition.

Heading up again soon. The Chi-Cheemaun is on summer schedule (11:10 am crossing is popular), so you don't need to leave at 3 am to catch it. Get there slightly early and grab breakfast at Craigie's, in Tobermory harbour.

Hi MacDoc,
This trip sounds really interesting might do it myself.
Couple of questions I have though:
Are you camping or are you just going to grab a motel room wherever its available?
How many km's do you expect to be doing every day?

Thanks
Rob

Motel - no hard ground for these old bones. ;)

looks like it naturally breaks into about 6-700 which at the 80-110 I like ( prefer the lower in nice scenery ) will be 8 hours

Not sure on the first day how to handle the ferry timing but I'd like to stay the other side of Sault - then mosey up to the parks where I've never been.

The hike across through Chapleau has to be done at an easy pace - moose, bear , deer are used to having the place to themselves and not sure of road conditions tho will know more today after having lunch with Thom who knows the area well.

Hey have you guys left for the trip already? How many people are going on this trip? I might be interested to tag along with a few friends. Any contact info just PM and let me know.

Thanks,

No and only looking for max 3 including me. More likely to do the other one one towards Ottawa BUT

I'm thinking of heading to N Quebec via the fast lane......this heat is brutal but worried about the storms when it breaks.
This is for Rouyn- Noranda north of North Bay to the East and a nice first day run.

nicer temps than here

However
It ain't gonna go from 30 degrees to 8 without some big banging going on when the fronts collide. :confused1:

There is going to be some vicious weather and I"ve been in that kind twice and it's no fun out in the middle of nowhere when it breaks.

this trip sounds awesome, I might do it myself in the middle of august, make sure you are back by then so you can give me tips !!! good luck!!

Looked at 533 as I went past it today along 63 - looks pretty choppy BUT found a superb spot up 391 - fresh pavement and some nice turns with height change as well.....good hours that was after a short detour on the gravel - clearly the rest of the road getting renewed...I mean this was as sweet as it gets and very few cars.
Can't post up pics from this over priced room in Rouyn-Noranda :(
