Ninja 300 vs Cbr 500

Hey guys,

Been thinking about seriously buying a Ninja 300. Love the look of the bike, looks hot and love how its an up right position bike but still look very sporty like the super sports. Wondering how well it holds up on the highway. I've owned a couple 600 cc bikes in the past but not a hand of the riding position and high insurance cost. I've been debating on the Ninja 300 or the Cbr 500 solely on the riding position and the sporty look.

I'm looking to hear some inputs from more experience riders that have given either one of the bikes a chance.

Let me know guys, thanks!

It'll hold up just fine. I've got a 250 and its more than sufficient to rack up stunting charges on the highway if that's enough for you...

The 300 does highway speeds just fine, though a bit high on the revs in 6th gear (people swap a +1 tooth front sprocket on to get the revs down a bit to fix this). Though if you plan on doing a lot of highway riding, like every day, you might find it a bit small.

I find even for everyday riding on the highway these bikes are enough. Sure you're not gonna have warp speed acceleration and its going to feel like an econobox at speed but that's to be expected. I find it slow from 130-160, that's when you really feel its a bit lacking, then again most people here would call you crazy for riding on public roads at that speed...

Haven't ridden any but here's a youtube review

CBR125R can do up to 130km/h tail wind and I've done 110km/h head wind in heavy rain/wind. The Ninja 300 has 3 times the power output and a wider tire so it should have no problem cruising at highway speeds all day long. It is a consideration of mine as an upgrade. Looks amazing especially with the available halo/angel eyes bi-xenon headlight conversions.

In my opinion the ninja can run highway speeds just fine, but if you are coming from a 600cc displacement, you will surely feel the downgrade of the engine power it self. Its way better to upgrade than to down grade.

300 is capable on highway.. I ride a ninja 250, saw a black 300 today. Thought it was cbr600, then I saw ninja label so I thought zx6r. then on a closer look, oh 300R lol.

My point is the 300R looks really like a 600cc

I have no experience with either but I do love the way the Ninja 300 looks: sexy just like it's big 636 brother. The CBR500 is ugly imo but probably easier to step down to than a 300 I would think.
Have you gotten quotes on larger displacement upright bikes? Not everyone is like State Farm and I'm willing to bet you can insure say a 650cc bike for less than a SS.

2007 Honda Black CBR125R (Current - Moded)
1999 Yamaha Blue YZF R6 (SOLD - Owned it briefly, very nice bike.)
1990 Honda Blue CBR600F1 (SOLD - Old bike, but good upgrade)

2000 Kawasaki Silver ZZR250R (SOLD - Great bike)
2007 Honda Red CBR125R (SOLD - Stock)

Judging by your sig, Ninja 300 would be a great upgrade from the 125.
Great on fuel, full fairing, looks sexy. My buddies have had no problems on the highway, it can cruise 130 easily.

No replacement for Displacement!

that being said, The 300 is not bad at all. It'll do 140kmph no problems at all...rip it through gears holding 10K RPMs and 140'll come by quick...from there on till about 180( and beyond!) will take time.

I test rode a CBR 500 and yes, it'll feel less buzzy for sure. I'm sure at some point in time you may see it's tail lights going away from you if you are pursuing it at speed

I would suggest that you would get a nice boost in power by replacing the heavy stock exhaust.
Please do not put on something ridiculously loud. A carbon fiber or titanium slip on would probably save you at least 10 pounds.
Your bike will also have a really nice low rumble sound since it's a twin.

Can someone find out how much the stock exhaust weighs (headers back also)? On some bikes it is easily 20+ lbs.

You may want to wait until the new KTM RC390 comes out. I believe its around 47 hp and lighter than the Ninja 300. But it is a more supersport seating position.

I rode the 300 for about 3 months and no problem at all on the highways (my commute was dvp > 401 > allen north) - i wouldnt reccomend the 500 just because you'll grow tired of the 300 and want to move to a SS. 300's like the 250's are easily sold and you can break-even, not too sure about the 500 just because its a pricier buy.

Had to google it, pretty nice bike, dunno about the headlights though. LCD display with a shift alert, pretty cool. Wonder how much it is.

Can't see why anyone would choose the Ninja over this if price isn't a factor.

It was nice until I saw the headlights.
And I'm pretty sure the price for this will be way over the 300 anyway.
