Ninja 250r turn signals

So I ended up having to drop my bike because a driver who was parallel parking decided to pull out into the middle of a one way, blocking both lanes 8 feet in front of me. The good part - I wasn't at fault. The bad part - I did end up dropping the bike. I took it into the shop and they fixed everything... however the flush mounted turn signals that were promised to me didn't fit.

The mechanic has now opted to bring in a stock turn signal however he said it can take a long time to get in from Japan. Does anyone have any leads on where I can get a stock LH front turn signal for a good price?

Where did you get this fixed? Turn signals do not have to come from Japan, your mechanic is misinformed.

I usually get my parts from Kahuna at Steeles and 400. There are several other Kawasaki dealerships around the GTA. Anyway, they cost ~$32 each, and will arrive within 3 business days.

I'm curious as to how you dropped the bike. And his insurance paid for everything? Did you hit his car? Don't answer if you don't want to, just curious.

Lol no worries I don't mind answering. I called up Kahuna to double check with the mechanic's information and it was spot on. He said the turn signals were backordered from the States and he put in a request with Kawi Japan to get them in. Kahuna said the same thing.

Here's how the story goes -

I was at a stop sign, turning right onto a one way with two and a half lanes. The right hand lane had a meter with street side parking. A car was parallel parking and was already in the parking spot on a 45 degree angle. I got into the left hand lane to pass by doing about 30k (thankfully this all took place relatively close to the stop sign so I wasn't going too fast) The driver pulled out and went across both lanes (i have no idea why). I dropped my bike instead of planting into him and I hit his tire with my tire. There was no physical damage to his car. We decided to settle outside of the insurance.

I guess I was misinformed, didn't think about the possibility of a back order. Although, it makes sense, it's a commonly broken part.

What else was damaged on your bike? You got pretty lucky here, but don't underestimate how quickly damage costs can rise. Going outside of insurance can work for minor stuff, just make sure you get enough cash.

Also, go back and rethink the crash. Just try to think about what happened and what you can do different next time. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, but that only works if you learn from it!

The whole thing was pretty expensive. I had to get the whole LH fairing & part of the nose sanded down & repainted, new mirror, new gear shifter and new light. I also had the engine inspected in case of internal damage. Thankfully there was none. The whole thing with labour came up to a little over 1500$.

I can say that I always drive more carefully around parking cars now lol

And the guy was ok with footing the bill? Very lucky. Technically, since you dropped the bike and slid into him, you lost control of your vehicle and caused the collision. Insurance would likely side with him.

Would they now....

you could post up in the wanted section on ninjette.org

it's a forum dedicated to the Ninja 250, so that's likely your best bet to find one quickly.

i'm not so sure about that...

if the guy pulled out in front of him and he had nowhere to go, then he is not at fault. I had a similar case years ago with my car. was in a iced up parking lot, some dude in a truck pulled out in front of me when I was about 10' from his parking space. I was only doing 10 or 15km/h but because it was so slippery and the truck pulled out last minute and I couldn't stop in time, he was at fault. The officer that came completely agreed that it was the other driver's fault (didn't hurt that the other guy admitted it was a bonehead move on his part, either). we ended up going thru insurance to have my car fixed since there was about $2000 worth of damage, and neither insurance company complained.

That's really good to know. My neighbour who's been a track driving instructor his entire life told me that the other guy was at fault since he blocked up both lanes. All I've been going on is hear-say though, and going outside the insurance was the easiest way to go since I really wouldn't want to get an accident on my insurance the first year I own a bike :S
