After many incidents of vandalism they removed the cameras about 18 months ago around a couple of local schools in the west Mississauga area where I live. Lens were sprayed over with black paint or the whole assembly was knocked over.
What replaced them were 2 series of speed bumps on either side of the school. There are 2 side by side bumps per lane and 4 across so changing lanes to avoid them is a no go. The ones in your lane are clearly marked, so you'd have to be a complete idiot to not see them and slow down. Maybe an issue in the winter, but who cares as I know they're there. Anyone who get slammed going over them is way over the 40 kph speed limit
This very low tech solution actually seems to work pretty well. The local tuner car bozos have to slow down dramatically because they bottom out on the bumps at speed. On the bike I just ride by in the gap between the 2 bumps in my lane. Snow plows seem to have no issue these speed bumps.
