Hello GTAM,

Calling all over the place today with no luck

Full G since 2007
Age 27
Completed safety course
M1: Feb 2011
M2: May 2011
M: June 2013
1 minor ticket, no accidents or claims

Currently insured with intact on my 94' VFR750 for $1900/yr

I want to insure a 2000 Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird

Intact: Won't insure
Aviva: $3560/yr (Paul South)
Dalton: No luck ($6800)
TD MM: Does not insure Blackbirds or VFR's....:???:
Riders Plus: Won't insure
Allstate: Won't insure
Statefarm $7800/yr
John R Duffy: Nope

Anyone else?

How are people insuring their 600's and 1000's? Apparently, the blackbird should be considered as sport touring...

Considering that bike was on the blacklist not that many years ago (and perhaps/probably still is based on your lack of insurance success) the part about it being considered sport touring is off in left base. It's a supersport, and a known very high performance bike.

Hope you haven't already bought it?

I do my research first

That's good to hear. Too many horror stories out there about people who buy the bike first, and then call for insurance. And then crap their pants. ;)

SS's are taking a shitkicking this year, plenty of threads on the topic here.

This would be my 7th bike...

I had a 05' CBR1000RR with Allstate for 1100/yr 2 years ago...

Maybe just stick to track...

Can't say I don't feel a pang for you guys, you at least are an experienced rider looking at an admittedly high performance bike - it's the <20 year olds who buy SS's who then seem surprised at the insurance quotes afterwards that make me shake my head, but guys like you, >25YO, full M...you'd think there'd be something more affordable.

Perhaps it's the blacklist nature of the bike, perhaps it's the ticket you have, but it looks like you've covered a lot of the insurance bases already.

So did you call Carlos? What was the outcome for the "best price" he stated they had for that bike?

Don't forget up 1000cc's on SS.
An SS over 1000cc is out of control $2500+ for a mature rider over 30 years old

Typically the issue is consecutive years insured. Not necessarily years licensed.

So if you are riding a litre SS and only had a couple of years insurance, they will ding ya.

What bothers me is, you can typically find a company to insure you the first year and don't require too much lube but then the renewal comes in and they kill ya.

Anyways, you might have to look at a less conspicuous litre bike that is easier on the pocket book for insurance.

in what world is a 178mph once world record holder bike considered a sport tourer.

Insurance companies have smartened up.

No they haven't. It was surcharged for as long as the surcharge has been around, it just never left the list.

Case in point: my mothballed ZX-11 is surcharged by TDMM. The Ninja 1000 that I had, a bike with superior performance in every way except the artificially limited top speed, is not.

It also rankles my feathers a little to call the CBR1100XX, ZX-11, and Hayabusa et al supersports. They were always first and foremost, street bikes.

You quoted me $2749 but never called back to confirm

Still waiting on confirmation the system is quoting properly, I'm not going to guarantee a quote when there is a possibility the quote is incorrect.
Unfortunately waiting for an insurance company to get back to us is a timing game
