Nearly became a hood ornament

In all my years of riding I've never experienced this degree of MORONIC driving behavier.

Yesterday afternoon I was riding up the DVP at around 4:30. As I'm passing Lawrence where traffic begins to speed up suddenly I feel my bike jerk forward, my back wheel become lighter, and lock up. I felt my bike acting in a way that can be compared to 'speed-wobble'. I glanse in my rear view and notice I've just been struck from behind by a cager. He couldn't have hit me at more than 5km/h quicker than my speed (which was still 90-100km/h). This was all happening within a second but felt much longer. I quickly regained my balance on the motorcycle and sped up since Mr. Dumbass Cager was still literally grinding the rubber off my wheel. Thankfully I have my skills on a track to thank for acting calm and recovering quickly without going down.

I memorized his plate and when he eventually pulled up beside me I asked him if he would pull over. He mumbled something and continued to drive. Not sure if anything was damaged, I got off at the next exit and pulled into the nearest parking lot. Upon inspection the bike (and me) everything seemed ok ...minus the rubber (or lack there of) on my back wheel and a bent license plate.

Later on a filed a claim for Hit and Run. Hopefully that F--ker will get what's coming to him.

PS - I'm honestly considering leaving the riding for the track and ditching my street bike. The more I look around at all those drivers who seem so preoccupied with their daily lives that they can't show little regard for those around them, the more I realize that riding in Toronto is a death wish.

Glad you kept your cool, and came out unscathed. Riding in the city is almost as dangerous as barebacking hookers from Homewood & Maitland that will only let you go Greek.

What Redballs said, heh.

Im glad you came out relatively unscathed. Any worse you could have been under that car. I hope that loser gets whats coming to him, especially once you find out his info.

Smart man, your coolheaded and went about it the right way, glad your alright, trust they charge him.

Thats feaking nuts! Follow up with the police, some people have to learn the hard way...

Glad your mostly unscathed. Always been bad or reckless drivers, now we have way too many cars, cell phones and texting...that has done it....riding in and around TO is a death wish. I commend you guys for surviving on a daily basis. Did the ride down the 404 to 401 and down Brimley to Kingston rd and had several near misses. Can't imagine doing it everyday....I'd want a hand gun.

They don't call it the Don Valley Of Death for nothing. It's not much better anywhere else in the GTA, unfortunately. Yesterday, a cab tried to cut me off at 0 km/hr. Imagine sitting in deadlocked traffic and suddenly, the car next to you lurches forward, coming to a stop MILLIMETERS from your bumper (or that plastic thing we call a bumper these days). Turns out he wanted to cross three lanes of stopped traffic so he could get into three lanes of stopped traffic in the other direction, nearly hitting everyone the whole time.

This is my first season but for the next several years I have written off even considering taking my bike into the GTA. I don't need to get into Toronto very much so it isn't a big deal. This only supports my decision really.

Oh now. Riding in Toronto only helps to toughen you up, everywhere else will be like a picnic in comparison.

i ride down town toronto everyday for work. Have been riding for less than a month. It's scary but im hanging on.

You should re-read, "he mumbled something and continued to drive" sounds like hit and run to me.

Glad you're ok - thats nuts - somewhat different but similar - my mother, age 65 at the time, was rear ended on the DVP once - took her by surprise - was driving along nicely, than bam - shook a little and kept going. The dude in the big van just kept going. How Nice! jerk...
This is my first season driving and i refuse t drive in Toronto traffic - sometimes cant avoid it as i live in Toronto too.

Same. Rode dirtbikes growing up, then a streetbike in my early 20s but just got a bike this summer and been commuting downtown. Mornings (leave around 7am from Jane/Bloor) aren't too bad as I just take Bloor all the way to Bay, then down to Dundas. Afternoons are a bit more scary but you get used to it, start keeping an eye out for where there might be trouble, and like another poster mentioned, it should make driving in any other area feel a bit more secure.

Cabbies and distracted drivers are what scare me the most...unfortunately that's 90% of the traffic.

I ride from york region into downtown almost 3-4 times a week, and once again ill be commuting down to school on tuesday, rush hour traffic in the west end is horrible. the closer to the city you get the morons you encounter. it sucks but it keeps me on my toes, and is a hell of alot more fun then sitting on the bus or driving down.

Glad you came out ok. Just curious, can someone get charged for hit and run if there no other witnesses around or proof of evidence such a video etc. I the end isn't it just your word against his?

If you require proof. Then maybe you can a caption from the traffic cameras aloing the DVP. I'm not sure how you go about getting it though.
