Hello all,

I would like to introduce my new KLR. I found this bike local on ADVrider.com and picked it up this weekend. I have been riding dirt and ATV mx for many years but I am planning to meet some friends on their around the world trip on DRZ-400's, thats a long story and I will create another post when I start planning, in short, I plan taking this to either Alaska or Mexico.

It has 14'000 kms on the clock with a few mods, most notably the front shocks are from a YZ 450F as the KLR is notorious for the unstable ride. The hard Jesse cases came with the bike and will suit me perfectly. More details to follow on the trip soon. Here's the bike:

Those cases look more like safes!
Clean looking bike, love the army green lol

Hi,

Yes they are actually quite lightweight but incredibly strong and lockable too. I think they are around $1400 new http://www.jesseluggage.com/, glad I didn't have to buy them like that!

I like the green too, I may consider painting it matt green one day, but its just too clean at the moment.

If you're doing some off-road with it, consider going with a more aggressive tire. Those look like 90%/10% street.

Thanks for the tip, it came with road legal dirt tires on it (Dunlop 606's) and I swapped them myself for the tires you see on it now as I plan to do way more riding on asphalt in the near term. They are a great tire, super smoooth...

Nice bike.Congrats!
I rode an 07 for a few years, all over the place.Trans-lab etc.
Did most mods possible to it. Great bike!

Good to hear! There are endless mods but some see it as 'flogging a dead horse' lol!

I really like the bike, at this stage it seems like it will be one of those things I will always keep in the background. It looks to be a great bike so far! I considered a later model, but I prefer the more rugged look of the earlier models. But the later ones prob handle a little better with better aero dynamics.

You are right, some mods are just useless.
The cheapest, best mod i've done was the fork spring preload with pluming pipe (got rid of the wobble at high speed) and the 22cent carb mod.Well around $10 with the KLX needle.
I bought an 07 for the same reason, looks a bit more "offroad".
The newer onces seem to have more complex problems ,electrical etc.
If you need any parts, run it by me.I still have some stuff left .
Looks like I'm just up the street from you .@ lawrence

Hi George,

I will keep that in mind, it has the 22 cent mod already, but I am unsure about the needle.

What are you riding now as an alternative to the KLR?
