moving up from 550 to 1100

My Wife moved up from her 535 Virago to my old 1100 Virago a few years ago and actually found the 1100 to be easier to ride. She always had trouble duck walking the 535 with her short legs. With the 1100 she would just let the clutch out a little and let the engine pull her along and use her legs just to balance rather than push her.

Hey, congrats. Looks good.

I'm still riding mine, bought new in '97, same model as yours, except mine has cast wheels. I like those laced ones.

Awesome ride. We just picked up a 99 1100 for my wife, she rode it for the first time yesterday. I have a 1997 1100 as well, so we look like twins out there.

I'm also on the Virago Tech forum, lots of great info there.

There are also 2 forums on Delphi forums if you're interested.

i think we have the same bike, on the logo of your bike does it say special? The vance & hines pipes is quieter than i thought.

Gar, after 97 i think they went back to spoke wheel.they are awesome bike for sure.

I gave up!! ..on trying to find a nice XV1100.. :)
Bikes I saw were ridden into the ground and/or very neglected (real shame as these can easily last over 100K).

For those lucky owners that snatched the last remaining nice Viragos - look into replacing your front fork springs with progressives for a lesser nose dive and firmer cornering: was one of the best upgrades for me back when I had this bike.

P.s. Your insurance may vary a LOT, depending on a company / your profile in between a 750cc vs 1100cc ($800 vs $1600 a year!)
