moved up to a ninja 300 from a cbr 125, regretting it --- why is bigger better?

Listen, I'm not bashing the Sportster... but bragging about it being faster than a 300 is like saying your 90 year old grandpa can shuffle faster with his walker than my 88 year old grandfather

I can't speak for all Sportsters but I know I could leave a 300cc in the dust, you think 883cc and upgrades is a toy :) but I will be honest I like the rumbling noise of the pipes and all the chrome guess I'm vain.. it's like driving a classic sport car we could not afford in highschool.

It all goes back to enjoying what you own. That's all that matters in the end. And if you were vain you wouldn't own the only model Harley marketed for beginning women riders. The stats below say that the 300 kicks 883 Sportster butt quite hard. Mod for mod and stock for stock you can always still brag about having more torque and a chrome handlebar.

Performance:
Ninja 300
34.77 hp Top speed - 170.6 km/h (106.0 mph) WINNER
5.6 second 0 to 60 mph WINNER
Quarter mile 14.5 seconds quarter mile @ 145.77 km/h (90.58 mph) WINNER
Stopping distance from 97 to 0 km/h (60 to 0 mph) in the ABS model 124 ft
Torque 17.45 ft lb @ 9750

Sportster
45.17 hp
Top speed 104 mph
6.6 second 0 to 60 mph
Quarter mile 14.77 @ 89.9MPH
60-0 Braking 123.7 Feet WINNER
Torque 48.39 ft lbs @ 3900 WINNER

In all honesty I would take your bike over the 300 as long as it has stock pipes. Better comfort and passenger perch.

Wow... I wasn't expecting the quarter mile and braking stats to be almost identical
Quarter mile 14.5 seconds @ 90.58 mph
Stopping distance from 60 to 0 mph 124 ft

Quarter mile 14.77 @ 89.9MPH
60-0 Braking 123.7 Feet

Displacement doesn't always mean faster... That's like saying your 883 is faster than my 600... A 300 would go faster than a sportster I know I've ridden both a few times

Lol, owned. Get your head out of your *****.No one gives a ***** about your 883. You like it, that's great. More power to you, it's a cool bike. But don't start saying you can "leave others in the dust" when you clearly do not know what you're talking about.

People upgrade for more power because they ride thier bikes for fun and going fast is fun. You ride to commute so that's why you don't understand. And don't worry you'll have your new bike soon. Salesman will always lie to you on delivery dates just to get a sale. You'll have it soon enough it's very very busy at this time of year for motorcycle dealers. Go for a group ride in some twisty roads and you'll be wanting a r6 lol I started with a 125 the a 250 then a r6

Uh, smaller bikes are better for tight twisting roads...

OP, that's why I went from a 650 to a 125 2 stroke. Still great fun. I just ride in higher RPM now and have to try harder to speed instead of doing it by accident all the time before. And even then I'm usually accidentally speeding, at least in town.

I never said smaller bikes Arnt better for twisting...some people can't read sigh

"why is bigger better?"

I rented an 883 at EagleRider Palm Springs, CA two years ago. That was the only bike available, so I held my nose and signed the rental -how bad could it be?
Day one, hilarious, really uncomfortable bike. Makes about 50hp, but it weighs close to 600 lbs. But, it leaves 1988 Yugos in the dust.
The "brakes" are a joke, single disc with all that weight, in a panic situation, look for soft hedges.
Day two, it broke down and just stopped, they thought it was electrical.

They now rent BMWs and Triumphs, but I have to say that bike was the worst bike I have ever ridden, by far.

Or a 300 :) doesn't really matter, I personally think 250 is best for twisties. My point was if he does some recreational riding instead of commuting maybe he will want some more power. Than his 125

And Lmao Ron Jeremy picture says it all Rofl.

Once you sort out the suspension issues -those bikes tend to need work done on the forks and shock. These SS600s, any make, have outstanding forks, shocks and brakes.

There is a reason why they cost twice as much, and it's not extra cylinders.

Well that's your experience, my XL883C is reliable, fast, good looking :),, and best bike owned so far, like it so much will buy another soon. I have no problems with brakes, electrical or anything on it, it's rubber mount Evo is bullet proof, and a snap to upgrade to 1250.. being comfortable on a bike depends really on rider not the bike.
Forward controls and an upgrade to make clutch easy makes it pure joy to ride...

Ride what you like and I will ride what I like, the world does not revolve around squirrel cage tin can noisy sport bikes. Like I care what you
think.. Not like I have to rev the hell out of a bike to get from A to B. I only stated could leave a 300 cc in the dust, with the many upgrades
done on my bike I will stick to the facts not wishfull thinking.

i think ur just venting impulsively.

ur statement about "as the bike gets bigger it gets less sporty" is kinda not here nor there. lol, if u get a bigger bike thats a super sport bike, then of course it will be more sporty. if you get a bigger bike that is a cruiser, of course it will be less sporty. Sportiness is determined by the type of motorcycle it is, not by its size :/.

i commute on my zx7 which is a fat pig compared to modern standards, but i love it. and i have no problem lane splitting and doing the same things u mentioned u do on your 125. it may not be as easy as on ur 125, but it can be done, and it is done.

so chill, and wait for that 300, cuz youll understand once you start riding it.

I also love my big fat zx7r

Are you saying cruisers aren't noisy as well? ;)
