Motorcycle storage tips for tight garage

Simple.....during riding season, park one of the vehicles in the driveway. Leaves plenty of free space to maneuver the bike, etc. In the winter, wedge the bike in the back behind one of the cars.

Yup^

I have things that need to go infront of the car. Previous posters suggested getting those things up off the floor so that you can park the hood of the car under them. Great suggestion - that will allow me to pull the car all the way in and put the bike behind as you suggest. That's the answer to my problem and it took you guys all of 10 minutes to solve it!

The bike is to commute to work and park for free. Pretty much everywhere else I go is driving my kids to and from their activities. You young guys have lots to look forward to!

Thanks to all again.

Not to be a buzzkill, but if you use the bike only for commuting it will get old really fast.

Wife saying that Im not allowed to keep it on our front walk way.

Get rid of the wife. $500 consulting fee is payable by cash.

In all seriousness; moving stuff vertically is key. There's lots of room in the average garage, it's just finding the best way to use ALL of it.

I had a 2 car garage, I fit in a 05 pontiac pursuit and a 1999 ford wind-star along with my 250. Pretty much where I stacked the tires I put the bike, it was RIGHT against the side wall, fairings removed on the rear stand. It was pretty much half a foot away from a car at any given time.

I just parked very carefully, at times the handle bar was an inch from the car, had to pull back the mirrors. Very tight fit but with some careful driving I managed it without incident. Had about 1.5 feet between the two cars so enough to squeeze in either one of them.

I put the front tire on some Styrofoam and cardboard. The only thing I didn't like was all the melted snow and salt that came off once parked but the bike never came into contact with this.

Interesting.

I have a single car garage that would be really tight with my midsize car and nothing else, my old Grand Prix would have stuck out through the door.

The garage is NOT used for any car, mine or my wifes. The garage is mine. Tools, bicycles, workbench, BBQ in winter (always have the door open before and after each use), sound system, small air compressor, snowblower in winter, and two motorcycles. Not only does my wife not care (she knows snow and rain won't make her car dissolve) but she suggested a second motorcycle. Now space is at a premium. But this is with a tiny garage.

Since you don't have an option like this you need that 8x10 garden shed with end door.

Don't waste your money on any of that stuff. I have a single car garage with all the same stuff you mentioned plus a snow blower lawn mower etc. All I do is back my bike up in the garage and position it parallel to the wall (in front of the car, kickstand leaning towards car). The bike actually takes up very little room this way. It's very easy to pull out whenever you go for a ride (of course I have to move my car out first). It takes me a little longer to back in. I just ride my bike in the garage, then a do few three point turns in the garage until I can back the bike up and parallel to the rear wall.

You have an SUV and a Sports Car in a single car garage??? Pics please!!

whats the ~ $ for one of these? Anyone with real exoperience, do they work as advertised?

what is the weight limit? My bike is a little hefty

I paid $250 for mine. Does the job but I wouldn't sit on the bike when it's on there.

Vertically is key. you guys need to think more creatively: i have a 2 car garage with a 6'x4' closet that extends into the garage and i have managed to fit:
1 car
4 motorcycles
1 4'x6' foot trailer
7 sets of snow tires at the moment soon to be 4
large tool chest
small lathe with bench
2 large metal cabinets
20 gal compressor
3 work benches.

Think shelving against the side walls, loft above the garage door, loft at front against house. and everything is on casters to move stuff around.

I have a 10' X 20' single car garage containing:

Safari van
Goldwing GL1500
Canoe
3 ladders
Rollabout tool box
All M/C cleaning stuff
Automotive fluids
storage for work materials
decent sized metal working unit

Look up and improvise. Do not waste one inch.

The Wing is on a rolling stand. It takes about 2-1/2 minutes to park it after a ride.

ITS IN!

I did exactly what you guys suggested, wall shelving. So the bike is behind my wifes MDX and under new shelves that I built today. I cleaned up the area all around my 911 but not much needed to change on that side.

Ill post pics when its lighter out. Theres about 18 inches to play with between the front and the back of the MDX combined between the bike and the garage door.

Thanks all!

If your not willing to move a car to ride a bike then maybe you should not get one.
I would move 3 cars if it ment no mike
Who is this mike? Is he hot?

I have to clean out all of the crud this week from our garage. 5 people in the house, but six bikes, a motorcycle, a tent trailer, generator, ladders, toolboxes, shelves, toboggans sports equipment, gardening etc. etc. etc. in there. We only park the van in, for the winter, mainly so I don't have to scrape it off every morning. The motorcycle goes under a shelf at the back wall for the winter. I have to mess with the mirrors, and do a 100 point turn, but it fits.

hang a tennis ball on a string so it hits the windshield when far enough in, or PL200 adhesive a pc of 2x4 to the floor as a parking gauge.

Wife parking + tight space + motorcycle = argument at dinner

I built my garage almost 20 years ago. The only car that wintered in it was for a couple years when the Squeeze thought owning an old VW would be fun - that passed.

The wife is actually a great parker and while she backs in to this tight space, shes got a back up camera. I drew a line on the wall beyond which her mirror is not to pass.

Ive attached a pic of the current set up.

Thx all

Ive been using the bike all week so Ive moved my car forward as you guys suggested and have room to put the bike behind it. Sometimes have to juggle them around, but its working well.

I have been - hoping that the WR will take its place for much of the year. The 996TT is an awesome 12mos/yr, 7day/wk car.

If you must be able to get at both cars and the bike all at once in the riding season, I say park the SUV on the street; keep the toys in the garage :D

My dad's garage is only for bikes (along with the other junk that ends up in there, unfortunately). Got 3 in there right now. If lived in a place with my own garage, it would be the same.
