Yea the helmet is supposed to be placed a few feet behind your bike.. so that it sticks out to passing riders, and they have more time to react and stop.

I was pretty sure it was helmet behind the rear tire, next to the road for the distress signal...

i was reading on a few sites and some people use it behind the front and some use it behind their back wheel.
