Motorcycle Rental in California

I will be visiting San Jose in the long weekend of November 11th. Would love to rent a sportbike there. I have seen some users mentioning Racy Rentals. Does anyone have any experience with these guys? Or any other rentals in CA? I want to rent the ducati 848 evo:D

Racy Rentals told me that it will be $220 for 24 hours, including taxes and insurance. The insurance is $2500 deductible. Does that mean in an unfortunate event of crash or whatever, I am supposed to pay back $2500? I should also get travellers insurance just to be on the safe side.

We rented from Racy Rentals a couple of years ago from their LA store. I think they will deliver to a lot of places in Socal. Friendly staff, a bit pricey, but the bikes were in excellent condition. I rented three bikes from them, all of them were current model year and had less than 1,000 miles on the odometer (that didn't stay that way after we were done with them).

Typically, the deductible means that in the event of any accident, you pay the first $2500, then anything after is covered by the insurance policy. So if a tipover results in $1000 damage, you're paying $1000 out of your own pocket. If a crash results in $5000 damage, you're only paying $2500.

If I remember correctly, there is an option to pay a higher insurance premium (like $20 more a day) to greatly lower the deductible.

Thank you for your response. I will opt for the higher premium as well. I should also buy a health insurance just in case. I hear the medical bills in US are crazy. Better be safe.

If you pay for the rental with a Gold or Premium Visa/Mastercard, the card may cover the CDW ($2500) I know it covers car rentals, and covered my bike rental in Portugal. but could check with your bank.

I would triple check on the cards covering motorcycle rental in North America. Most don't cover, and don't cover car's over a certain MSRP ($65k + if I recall correctly).

OP, you might want to look into medical insurance for your trip. I'm not an expert, but I don't think the moto insurance offered will cover your medical bills in the event of a crash.

If you have health insurance through your job you may have medical insurance for travel included, so take a look at that. Some credit/charge cards also include it, I believe Amex Platinum has $500k for travel booked on the card

nvm for now....apparently its not long weekend for my workplace on November 11th. I will see if I can visit there in Christmas. It should be considerably warmer there too.

It might not be as warm as you think. We were in Los Angeles exactly when you originally planned - Nov 11 long weekend - and it was still pretty cold. Plus San Jose is further north of LA. Average temps in San Jose around Christmas is a daytime high of 13C and around 5C overnight. You won't really get warm temperatures until you travel further south past San Diego.

Rented from Daniel at Racy Rentals the last two years when in LA. Great experience start to finish. Current model year bikes in great condition. Pick up and drop off was easy and when I requested it. They provided all the gear required, I was travelling with nothin.
Will definitely see them again this February.
