If she did get tires last year, who sold her 9yr old tires? Was it the same shop? If she isn't knowledgeable about bikes I doubt she is about date codes.

Either way I wouldn't bother with a video unless it's about getting an old bike on the road again.

I know. I perennially feel like it can't be more than a few years ago, too. My 2001 Honda is just a few years old, right? Right?! It's not an antique, that would be crazy...

She may have mentioned it was done when she bought it, I can't be sure at this point. It's possible it was a seller telling her she was new, and she took them at their word. Who knows. It was nice to hear it run though.

I was actually thinking about going a different route and paying a different shop to just "assess" the bike and see what they come up with, and compare that to the original list and reporting back on that.

Do both. If it's a conversation with the original shop, it won't (well, shouldn't) cost anything for them to explain.

She didn't pick it up from there, I did. Got it sight unseen and told her I would bring it from them myself because it sounded like she was really over them.

When I arrived I was told "We don't know where the battery box cover is but we think it wasn't on it when we got here."

I was so unimpressed with them I just wanted to gtfo of there because they seemed like children trying to run a bike shop. For example, they told me they'd need my email address to pick up the bike. Lol, wtf? I asked why. "How will we know you're the right Adrian?" ...Motherfucker, how many Adrians are going to show up at a specific time, on a specific date, to pick up that specific worthless bike? And if some would-be thief really knows my schedule that intimately, and really wants it, aren't they likely to know my email address anyway?

No common sense allowed.

I used to service air tools. When a tool came in it was put into a bin along with everything it came with. As it was disassembled every part went into the bin.

When it went out repaired it didn't go with a shield or cover from a different tool.

On some Goldwings an OEM, colour matched battery cover can be $500. Multiple Honda specific colours, pinstripes and emblem. If it was your bike would you want a knockoff cover and a rattle can paint job?

A motorcycle enthusiast tries to educate a novice, not rip them off. Maybe the buyer of the tires got scammed, assuming they were getting new tires not new old stock.

Before I left the dealership, I realized the tires were, let's say, used up.
After the ride, the salesman asked how it was?
Good enough to make an offer, which I did, and bought the bike.
I was told it would be a week, for a safety. Fine, see ya in a week.
First thing buddy and I look for......new tires.
Yes, there they are, on the bike, and you could see the thin red paint line on both (Metzeler) "new tires".
Further (curious) inspection reveals date codes from 2013, on both wheels.
WTF?
Apparently (from the dealer) that's ok, with proper storage.

Funny how tire age always works to the shop's advantage:

Inspection where customer pays - "Tires are otherwise fine, but need to be replaced due to age."
Inspection where dealer pays - "Tires are fine, age doesn't matter."

I wrote the front tire off, 14kms into ownership, on the way home from picking it up.
Bike was on a flatbed to get it home.

How do you move so little inventory on 17" tires to keep a set around for 13 years

Popped a new battery in the mystery Rebel...

Rear brake light works just fine, unlike what the shop said.

Turn signals on one slide do not work at all, which, you guessed it, the shop did not say.

This is a motorcycle forum but let me warn people NOT to bring their vehicles to Northland Recreation on Highway 11 south of Gravenhurst. Took two sleds there and one of them came back to me without the cover for the centre stalk AND missing the kill switch - claimed they were missing before (they were not). Charged me for the kill switch, I didn't buy the cover.

Then (fool me once) they screwed me over on another issue on a 3rd sled- gave me a verbal quote but told me to wait to do the work until just before the next season so my warranty is valid for longer. When that time comes they tell me its not repairable, will not acknowledge prior quote, when I ask them for a written quote the number is way higher than the first quote they gave me.

Here's the kicker - when I tell them to go ahead he tells me they just don't have time to do it and to please come and get the sled.

Avoid Northland Recreation.

Recreational equipment has no shortage of disappointing stories and I can't help but feel that the situation is getting worse.

I also can't help but feel technology is to blame and macho gear-heads are a dying breed.

With a Canadian Tire tool set you could fix just about anything on an old Chevy.

If you're in a condo fixing anything bigger than a toaster, logistics is an issue.

I've had and seen enough jerking around from the boating industry to make me into a bystander. If I can't store and service it on my own property I don't want it.

When you buy a new car you get the shop tour and introduced to the service manager who smiles and tells you to talk to him personally if you have any problems. When you run into a problem the service manager tells you to get in line like everyone else and have your credit card handy. Service has its own budget and doesn't care about the sales budget.

There are some good independents and if you find one, treasure them.

It isn't getting better. Humberview Motors used to sell Chevrolet and it's close cousins. Now they are the Humberview Group, handling 18 brands, American, German, Korean, Japanese. They're not the only one.

The old line about not killing the goose that lays the golden eggs seems to have been forgotten.

My mother made me learn basic sewing and fixing buttons. Her neighbor in the building had the cord end on the $2000 special pet vacuum cracked ready to buy new. Fixed and returned. Only one I didn’t fix was the 1970s waffle iron. Every wire covered in asbestos.

My mom has a 41 year old seeing machine. Brought over from Poland when we immigrated 32 years ago.

The things is a work horse. It also helps that my mom used to work in a factory sewing leather purses.

I usually get same day service when I need something altered or repaired.
Running joke in the family is that my dad or my sister usually wait a few weeks for their stuff to get fixed.

I once needed a brass 6-32 screw and was completely out. Instead of a trip to HD I made one out of a brass rod. It was faster than the trip to HD and looked really nice. I saved 39 cents and a half hour.

Ive done that - made a few case cover bolts for an old Suzuki dirtbike by turning down some m8s to m6.

Not a good use of time, but my other option was waiting for 2 days.
