Apparently you don't get it....I'm not riding in situations that require top end gear - no track, no motocross , just plodding around in the savannah and forest tracks taking photos and the scenery.
And by keeping my gear costs appropriate to the use then I CAN afford to use the money for other things.
More money does not always achieve better results.
The guy that hit a deer at 60 mph with the same ride I have kept it upright and rode it home.
I got his seat from the insurance company for 1/2 price.
Sure I could have spent $1200 on the same seat but $600 was smarter. That also gave me a lot of confidence in what the bike could take as I ride a lot at night. So top end road gear is not of interest to me.
If I'm riding at night then sure I'll armor up but not for 150 kph twisties
I've got 45 years riding - you learn a thing or two. I'm not in the least atgatt and I've been riding since long before there were helmet laws.
I wore a Bell Star when riding the RD400 as it was appropriate.
Now I wear a BellMag8 as it suits what I do and sometimes shirt and shorts suit as well.
Mcycling costs enough as it is with the stupidity of the insurance system here.
I'll buy used gear.....my JR mesh cost $50 - great value but since I've been photographing I want some under armor so I can keep the jacket open or not wear it at all. My choice and I don't need or want expensive.
I'll stick the knee armor on cuz they are light and comfortable and they were useful in low speed situations in the mud in Australia and $30 was the right price.
I tried my kids knee armor and it was too heavy, hot and expensive but happy he bought it for playing hooligan and I'm quite glad he did even tho he's a rather conservative street rider....he's fallen enough off road to appreciate it BUT he doesn't wear it all the time cuz its not so easier and not so light.
I'm going with a lighter off road bike and perhaps some single track this year in Aus so an extra bit of armour is appropriate to that. I'm quite happy to drop $600 on a good lens if the value is right but I'll by used in heartbeat. And I can do that as I don't spend unnecessarily on other items.
All a matter of choices.
Guy I know is a millionaire many times over, he drives a 10 year old car and uses an old computer cuz that's all he needs and that's part of the reason he's wealthy - he's not into flash and strutting his wealth. He's practical with his money.
Me too.....mostly
