marking your tires with chalk

Hey - does anyone know if they are allowed to chalk your tire to time how long you have parked? I didn't think that was allowed as they would be touching your personal property.
I noticed a white chalk mark on my tire today, don't think I rode by any kids playing with chalk so I'm thinking maybe parking enforcement did it.

Where did you get the idea that they arent allowed to touch your property? When they lift the windshield wiper and give you the parking ticket, what do you think they are doing?

its easily removeable, non-marking (in the easily washable sense, not like soap bar on windshield), leaves no residue, relatively incospicuous, short-lived.

don't complain, unless you are avoiding time-limits for parking, then just quit your btching

Yes they still do this, and can do this. Its a way for parking/bylaw to time how long you've been parked in a spot for.

Wow, Red Liner & vociferous. This was a simple question on if they are allowed to chalk your tires. I heven't seen this done before, not sure where the hostility is coming from - I am far from bitching about this but rathing looking for someone who may know a bit more then I do on it. If the need be a will take a cloth and take it off - not a huge deal. I was looking for someone who Knew the rules.

Your doing fine.....asking the typical GTAM questions:rolleyes:

Yes it is allowed and it is used on a daily basis, if they don't chalk your tire, they can also note the position of your valve stem onto their handhelds and when they come back they check against where the stem is at and if has not moved a ticket is sure to be issued...

They are enforcing bylaws, not causing property damage by chalking your tire....

never seen this before? They have been chalking tires world wide for years!! Did you read some silly article from the US where some guy sued someone for chalking their tires and thought it was "banned" now???
