Hey guys a buddy and I are going on a few day trip up to Manitoulin island in august. We will be staying in Tobermory the first night and. It’s my first trip and I am looking for some recommendations from you guys about Accommodation, Food and drink orThings to check out and any information you guys have about nice roads out that way. We are leaving from Cambridge

Do a quick search on GTAM, since the subject comes up frequently and Manitoulin doesn't change much. There are no traffic lights (except at the swing bridge in Little Current), the night sky is awesome and the air is clean. The roads are a combination of straights and sweepers with some elevation changes. Pleasant, but not spectacular. If you can, head up 6 to Espanola and back.

Coyotes arrive on the island recently, so watch for them on the roads and when you go for a pee at night, when you can hear them yowling.

I am planning a similar trip right now for the week of August 6[SUP]th[/SUP]. I plan on camping, taking the Chi cheemaun ferry across to the island and finding some stealth camping spots around Sudbury area for a few nights before riding across to Algonquin Park/Barry’s Bay area for a few nights. I found a pretty nice campsite at Cyprus Lake Campground in Tobermory for the first night, then taking the first ferry over. The Chi Cheemaun now charges a "reservation fee" which is pretty much another $10 per ticket for the afternoon ferry trips. Let’s just hope the weather is nice.

IF you do take the trip from the Island to Espanola, be very diligent about the speed limits. The OPP can be merciless outside of Espanola, especially right on the way out of town to the Island. Many people I know have been nailed there. I've never heard of much issue on the Island itself though. The Cup and Saucer trail is nice if you're into that kinda thing.

my ex's family has a bunch of cabins up there that they rent out. it's on lake kagawong.

coincidentally, I've also befriended a couple that run a canoe/kayak rental place also in kagawong.

their names are Brian and Nora. Lots of fun!

Lots of nice scenery up there, and what I would imagine are decent roads to ride. I haven't been there in several years. I remember there are places several spots where you can take ATV tours through the bush. Horseback riding. Fishing. etc..

Just google it.. should be able to find plenty of stuff.

We just did that trip a couple of weeks ago. Scenic, but after 6, it becomes a ghost town. Hard to get food, booze or anything else for that matter. We stayed at a place called Fred's cabins. It's off the beaten path but cute cabins on a lake. It is a cabin so you need to bring everything from towels to food to soap. The ferry ride was a cool experience. Book it in advance though, it fills up this time of year!

We're off to lake placid, Burlington Vermont, Montreal, Ottawa and back on a 5 day trip in August.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will deffinatly take the advice and book the ferry this week.

Got it planned out

Staying at the Hub of The Tub first night
second on the island and paridise montels
and third night staying in creemore and hitting Wasaga beach for their Middway.
Then home

Should be a fun trip

The Grotto is right there at Cyprus Lake, worth checking out. Bring swimwear. Someone already mentioned the cup and saucer trail... Make sure to check out the adventure section of the trail if you do the hike. Have fun!

I did the manitoulin run last year. The cost of the ferry, the timing of the ferry, the time of the ferry, and there is more....I opted the hwy 6 route. I rode out to meldrum bay. There are campsites available on the water and fish and chips. If you are planning to ride and stay over, I would head that way and stay at that campsite. The next day I would try to get over to cockburn island somehow. Rule for manitoulin trip is to always be filling up! When you are half full, fill up! I found the roads fun to ride, but pay attention. If you aren't and you are going to fast could be detrimental.
