hey GTAM

I was wondering if somone could help share some info regarding the M course at RTI.

I will be taking the course June 22 for inclass, and June 24 for the riding portion. I just purchased a new pair of TCX xsquare boots and was wondering if RTI would allow me to use them during the riding session of the course? I ask because on their site they say leather or hiking boots that are ankle high, the TCx boots are definitely ankle high, but they're not leather, they're suede.

2 more things.

I have a mirrored visor on my helmet would any of you suggest going back to the clear for the test, or should i be fine with the mirrored visor? secondly, I want to install my integrated tail light but just incase they don't approve of it for the course, should I wait until after completing the test to install it ?

thanks everyone,

Drew

you're probably best off calling RTI to ask these questions... if you installed the tail light because some one here said it wouldn't be a problem and the instructor had an issue with it how far do you think "but this guy on GTAM said it was ok" would get you with RTI? IIRC the various schools meet before doing the actual test, you can ask the instructor then if your gear and stuff is ok, but i would hesitate to do the tail light (i would actually recommend against installing it at all because it reduces visablity, and you can not be too visable out there).

Thanks for the advice, but i would never use a gtam's members feedback as official information just helpful insight thats all :) lol

And the integrated tail i purchased should be pretty bright, I have asked rti themselves about what to wear etc .. and because the receptionist doesn't know either and says its up to the instructors that i should ask during the inclass portion of the course, which I will , i just thought that maybe i could get some feedback on here from anyone that has had experience taking their M test through RTI.

but again thanks for the advice.

is it brighter/more visable than stock? lots of tail lights you can't see, just look in the various sections about how people had to do hand signals because the tester couldn't see/differentiate the signals. if it's up to the instructor so you may get one instructor allowing something and another being more stringent.

it's a couple hours of your life for a test, not a fashion show or timmies posing fest.

The instructor will make the call based on whether or not they can easily see your signals in action. Don't rely on getting away with hand signals.

your signals will probably be alright..I am going for my full M this weekend in Guelph..I have integrated signals as well.. should be good! :) and good luck on your upcoming test

pretty sure suede is leather. It is also a boot made for motorcycling and has more built in protection then a work boot or a hiking boot.

I'm pretty sure Danier sells buttery soft leather jackets that wouldn't last 2 seconds in a skid....

suede is leather - made of the underskin. leather is that and the exterior skin layer.

A lot of places won't accept suede, but recommend leather. Tough "riding' leather - not Danier quality.

i've seen some riding boots that were better for posing than riding... you see all sorts of junk at some booths in the shows, some of it good some of it crap. just cause it is "made for motorcycling" doesn't mean it is usable. remember, the shorty gloves with the cut off fingers are "made for motorcycling" as are the icon bombshell boots which make it difficult to shift/keep your ballance on the bike. at dover i saw "motorcycle boots" that wouldn't protect you from a flying insect nor any other hazard.

He is asking what he can wear for the course not what the best gear is. lol Last I checked for the M1 exit they allowed gardening gloves...

sorry i was referring the the boot in question i.e..the TCx boots in the context of the question posed by the OP not all things leather or suede made for motorcycling.
