Looking to buy a pitbike... more details in thread

There's a local with a 2012 Orion 125 21H for sale, $800. I'm sorely tempted. I've been told not to buy one and opt for a SSR 110 A-1 - Skooterz in Niagara sells the brand and they do look pretty good... I don't care much about overall power as I really intend to use it as a pit bike... doubt I'll do much other than wheelie it a bit and maybe jump the occasional curb...

Before anyone jumps in with the "buy a honda crf, xr, etc." I've been looking at them for months now and can't find anything decent under about $1300 (old 88 XR 100)... new KLX 140 is $3200.

I'm not cheap but I really don't see myself needing something to withstand insane abuse.

Anyone with advice / input? I know there are lots of people with these bikes...

Take a look at the pitster pit bikes. Huge aftermarket for them and they are what a lot of people use for pit bike racing.

I went and took a look at an Orion pit bike today. Fully automatic transmission... disc brake...

My impression is that it's not too bad overally, but the motor has poor finning, the motor backfired through the carb and smoke came out some of the joining surfaces (downpipe-carb and downpipe-engine) so not well sealed. The shock is junk and the forks are circumspect.

Fine for what I originally planned, just to run around the pits... but I got thinking about it and I figure that I might actually beat the crap out of it doing jumps and taking it to the motocross track after all... not my original plan but riding these small bikes is somehow more fun than big bikes sometimes.

So I'm now down to three brands after some research and probably will go with either a Pitster Pro SS 150 or a good old KLX 140. The PP is a grand less new.

I see your semi local. $550 cash will get you the same bike but with a 4sp/clutch just outside of Belleville

A buddy has just bought one and its seems pretty sound, of course the sludge that was in the engine was drained and replaced with RP and the bike got a good look over to make sure things are tight right out of the box. foot pegs will need to be re-welded and braced but for the price it all seems minor.
He has owned a 90cc version of it for years now and drives the heck out of it.
From what i see with these bikes, Its all in how well you practice routine maintenance that keeps them alive.

Never mind... found this! Like brand new, owned by a lady and a kid that didn't get to ride it. Not a mark on it.
