Looking for a riding jacket

Hey there I'm looking for some input on a riding jacket , I can't seem to find a jacket that fits properly , I'm 5'10 250 lbs. I have tried on a lot of different jackets and the ones that fit my body are really loose and usually to long on the arms and the armour doesn't stay in place , just looking for any help from anyone that has had this problem . And yes I know I could loose some weight . Lol.

How many have you tried on? I'd go out to Whitby and go between GP Bikes and Royal Distributing and try on a million different ones until you find one that works - they both have a big assortment. ;)

There's no universal answer to this. You need to physically go in to GP or Royal Distributing and try on different jackets until you find your fit - as PrivatePilot mentioned.

I will have to check out gp bikes , I tried on a bunch of jackets at royal distributing in Guelph but the selection was pretty small because it's mostly snowmobile gear out right now. Thanks for the help.

Well you may have tried on a lot of jackets but have you physically tried them on?

Have I physically tried them on ? How do you not physically try a jacket on ?

Welcome to GTAM. You haven't met inreb yet, have you?

Im 5'10 and 230lbs and I also have short legs and a tall torso. I had the same problem buying gear. I have found Joe Rocket stuff tends to work well for me also be aware they have "tall" and or "short" sizing in alot of their gear. the other brand which seems to work well for me is Teknic. unfortunately they have been out of business for years and the only stuff available is old stock. Also the only place that seems to have any is Cycle world superstore on sheppard in scarborough. Last fall they still had a fair bit i cant say what they have anymore.

Otherwise do what others have suggested and go to oshawa and visit GP bikes and Royal Distributing and they will likely have something

Thanks , I was not aware that Joe rocket has tall and short sizing . I will be looking into that for sure.

Wait until it is closer to spring. Retail stores will not stock new jackets until closer to the season because they must pay for their inventory. Have you tried to buy a bikini in the winter? Retail usually goes dead from Jan-March. What is currently in stores is leftover stock they could not get rid of from last autumn. Cycle World Superstore always carries jackets from many seasons prior, same reason. If you don't mind the old styles it could be Ok.

You're new here, GTAM often times has a warped sense of self. To clarify you can only try on a jacket physically, as there is no generally accepted online way to try on a jacket. Maybe Google or Apple will invent this next, a sort of "out of body" way of sending your body to some clothing site. They are also working on an out-of-body olfactory feature.

A couple of things: don't mind inreb, he's been drinking.
I also had some luck with a Joe Rocket Sonic jacket. I'm 5'6" 260lbs (or when @inreb gets to it 4' 460lbs) with short arms, and this jackets fits well. Most others also had arms that were too long for me.
As far as last years stock or old styles? Discount time!

That's definitely not the case for my local retailer in Ottawa (613motorsports). Some of the good stuff is already being sold and even sold out for this season. He said that this winter has been super busy, likely because of the nice december weather.

As for the OP, try a bunch of brands, they all fit differently. I'd stay away from Dainese and Alpinestars based on your measurements however..

I have found Joe Rocket to be the best suited for those of us with a "North American" physique. ;)
