Looking at this bike Sunday Evening. What to look for?

Looking at this bike Sunday Night -----> http://www.kijiji.ca/v-sport-bikes/...es/1070945126?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

The seller has told me the price is firm. I just want to know what I should be looking for when I go see this bike. Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks

Why? Thats way overpriced.

Generally when look at used bikes, get a sense of the owner. It will tell you more than the bike itself.

Ninja 300 is dime in a dozen, be ready to walk away if any thing iffy.

I think it is over priced too.

The upgrades are mostly cosmetic and seller is trying to get some of his money back.

It's not really that overpriced. These bikes sell fast, especially at the beginning of the season. This one is supposedly in great condition and has ABS.
However, nowhere in the ad does it say firm. I'd aim for $4,000. Sounds like the seller needs cash quick.

He's got some good mods there like carbon fibre exhaust and heated grips.
That exhaust alone OP could resell for around $200 (ask for all OE parts OP).

when I messaged him he said it was firm. Said tire has 50% wear and that it is due for maintenance shortly. He has some one coming in Monday morning to see the bike so I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't rush and get this bike. It has all the mods I would want to put on a ninja 300, but it will prob need a new tire soon and maintenance fees etc.

Is this your first bike? If it is don't bother with all those mods. Buy one that's got no mods and learn to ride on it.

Does it have to be the 300? I did a search on kijiji for 2009 and up ninja 250s, up to $3K. There are 31 in the GTA.

All of the 300 ninjas on kijiji are basically 4K up to 5K+. Might as well buy a new one.

Yeah, first bike. I would rather have a 300 than a 250 incase I want to go on the highway. I have seen 300's with the fender eliminator and exhaust (which would be ideal) for 4K, but I am always late and they get purchased before I have a chance to see them :(

250 can't go on the highway? since when?

Yeah he says he has someone coming Monday morning to look at it. "typical" pressure tactic. He may indeed have someone coming but he doesn't know, how serious they are, just as he doesn't with you. TONS of people make appointments to come see stuff on Kijiji and never show. He also says he is "responsible rider and has abstract as prrof" Again just hype. All the abstarct shows is that he HASN'T BEEN caught. most if us speed everyday, but have clean abstracts. So be aware of his penchant for hype and pressure.

When I was looking for a bike I was getting tired of that sort of pressure. Go with your own pace and offer whatever you feel is fair value without low balling. His ad states he's ignoring lowball offers which usually means he's open to offers - but not lowball offers. With the price ranges they're offered I wouldn't pay more than $4,000 for a solid 300 with low km and with no expenses required. If you pay $4,500 on this and $250-300 more on tires then seriously why not just buy a new one.

Btw, my ninja 250 had no issues whatsoever on the highway, not sure where you get the idea ninja 250's aren't highway worthy bud.

bike has 14.5K. i don't know about ninja's service schedule, but i suspect that at 12K, there's major service (like valve adjustment=$$). make sure all major servicing had been done (check ninja owner manual). ask for receipt. if not receipt, or he says his buddy did it, tell him to "suck the big one".

if no servicing, which i suspect (owner's like to sell their bikes close to or at major service interval so they don't have to do it and buyer incurs cost), then either deduct that cost from price or tell him "suck the big one".

goo luck!

$4500 is high, $4000 for the mileage is probably about fair. If this is your first bike, don't spend too much on it. Plus learning to wrench isn't a bad thing. You'll make mistakes, its how you learn. Just get a copy of the service manual. As the previous post indicates, the valve check can be expensive if you don't do it yourself.

All very good points. Definitely considering not going. Specially looking at the manual and the service that needs to be done. thank all

is it just me or is the tail section scratched right above the exhaust?
that would explain the new exhaust, bar ends, levers, and rearsets....or if its not a scratch, he just put on a couple bolt ons. the rearsets depending on the brand are the only expensive part. that slip on is $200...and really 2 bros...not a fan.

Why not go anyway? You might be able to get some feel about sellers, the bike, etc. that you could use later. Also, firm is only valid if the asking price is reasonable. With all others going for the same price, and major work/service still to done, I think that price should be negotiable.

I think you should still go and look, Go for the experience of looking. Just don't buy it till you've looked at a couple other examples.
Try not to get emotional and fall in love with it. Don't make a snap decision, tell him you'll think about it and you're going to be looking at another one tomorrow.

BTW, there is a huge sticky in the for sale section on what to look for in general.

All the blingy stuff he put on the bike is worth $0. He may spent a bunch on it, but that doesn't mean you should pay for someone else's crappy decor. $30 value for the used air filter, maybe a few bucks for the slip-on, if you like 2bros.

Usually people are more willing to negotiate in person, if you are able to show/get the cash before the end of the day. Also good from an experience point of view to check it out, helps you get a feel for dealing with sellers.

The person going to look at it Monday will have the same reservations you will. Don't get emotional about it. Looks like a decent bike. I'd ask for service records and make sure it's up to snuff. If price is firm, I'd want new rubber, fresh fluids and brake service included. Worth checking out so you feel good about looking at bikes. Even if you don't buy.

When 2 Joey B's are saying the same thing, you should listen.
